April Fool spoofs

I wonder if others find the media's need to do April Fool spoofs every year, as aggravating as I do? The BBC really surpassed itself this afternoon with one about speed cameras being used at Aintree to ensure that no jockey allowed his horse to run at more than the 25mph limit! It would have been ok if they had left it at that, but they went on and on about it. There is considerable doubt whether the BBC take their coverage of National Hunt racing seriously anyway, given the number of meetings they could have covered this year and chose not to. They allegedly moved heaven & earth to get the rights to televise boxing again, yet they schedule it for the early hours. Some AF spoofs are good, but this year's seem to be particularly bad.

I agree it was a weak one though allegedly they got a lot of feedback via texts and e-mails about it. The interest in N.H. racing by the beeb is weak compared to how it used to be and compared to ch4. I hope ch4 continue to give us their coverage seeing what is happening to attheraces otherwise we could lose the cheltenham festival on terrestrial tv next year i believe.

I believe GMTV did one this morning about "diet tap water" but did not see the end of the programme to see if it was.Best bit of the item was when Eamomn Holmes said to Kate Garriway (holding two glasses of water) something like "Hello Kate, looks like you've got a nice couple of handfulls there"!.

I saw the tap water one. I thought pretty early it was a spoof.....there is no way you will get thinner by drinking tap water!! Just to balance things they had a woman on to say you need a healthy diet to lose weight......just in case viewers thought it was for real!!!!
The ITV news had one about cannibis lolipops been sold in school & service stations.
One other I saw was small cameras strapped to birds to catch speeding motorists.....they said they had got the idea from a nature program with birds flying with cameras on them.

ITV have put in a bid to cover racing, harking back to the days of the ITV 7 on a Sat afternoon.
Although Channel 4 do a very good job I sometimes think they treat the viewers as kids with silly jokes & things.
Wish the BBC would get back Cheltenham & I hope they keep the National, god help us if Channel 4 got hold of that.
The BBC don't seem keen on holding on to the big sports events, they have lost test cricket, rugby, motor racing & now the boat race!

Meridian tv's local programme "Meridian tonight" had one about a new type of paint that could change colour using a remote control device!!!. Someone had isolated the gene that made leaves etc.. change colour throughout the year and incorporated it into something called "Lirpa paint". LIRPA of course is april backwards!. Someone somewhere MUST have fallen for it!.

What about the EU Directive that cricket should go metric. The pitch, stumps, creases measured in metres. The teams only ten a side and most stupid of all, ten ball overs.
