The guy you're probably thinking of, is Tony Martin.
2 lads broke into his place. One was killed when Tony shot him and the other was injured.
Tony went to prison and eventually so did the one who survived fro a Heroin charge.
Whilst behind bars, he decided he was going to sue Tony for 15k for loss of earnings, unability to get his thieving pecker up and not being able do do martial arts.
What made it worse was that the taxpayers would have to fork out the cash for this bastard.
He eventually dropped his lawsuit and that was it.
Tony was eventually released from jail.
Some say Tony is a nut, but between you & me, if 2 bastards broke into MY house? Well then, they would not be leaving in one piece.

We had a thread going a while back.

Nice example Holden.
Quite recently our village shop was the victim of an armed robbery, it only took the county gendarmes 45mins to attend the scene.
Apparently the force is now sectored(wtf?) so we have to wait our turn! cos they're a bit busy nicking truants & motorists!
And lo it came to pass! the exact same thing happened again a week later, only this time merely an hour before plod arrived.......amazing isn't it.
When questions were asked...the response from the Chief Constable.......SILENCE!
Perhaps he'll deign to reply when this years council tax bill arrives & the parish tell county hall to get f****d with the 25% police authority bill hike.

.......and the pay-off to the above story would be that the householder was promptly done for wasting police time, and false reporting.
For Bimmercat, the defence here is one of Reasonable Force, basically the minimum necessary to 'repel the boarder': had Martin not shot the young lad in the back, he might well have been acquitted. I also think there was some doubt as to the validity of his Firearms Certificate....?

I dont think there are many people who if living alone miles from anywhere were confronted in a dark house in the middle of the night by unknown and potentially armed intruders who wouldnt be in fear of their lives and take ANY steps to protect themselves - nothing else matters really, he was scared and he reacted with the perfectly natural human reaction of self preservation.

At the end of the day if Barras and co had not been burgling his house they would never have been shot in the first place - if I had been in Tony Martins shoes I would have done exactly the same thing and I suspect most people would do the same.

Well, that sounds sensible on the face of it, but it is NOT perfectly legal to shoot anyone who enters your property without permission: the judge directed the jury that while in Fearon's case the shooting was reasonable, that of Barras was not.
The assumption is probable that had Martin only shot Fearon, they would have both fled (one limping....), and the DPP would probably have decided against a prosecution, on the grounds of the reasonable force defence.

Interesting that you didn't respond to my posting about imprisonment rates in the UK compared with the US. Selective blindness or perhaps you were too busy playing with your guns.
