how much that remark says about you and how little it says about the dedication and vision of those who are trying to add to the sum of human knowledge.

try looking through the end of the telescope that makes things look bigger instead of smaller, for a change.

Besides which, a lot of the inventions only relate to those publicly acknowledged. Baird may have invented telly, but his wasn't the system that worked properly. Bell's work on the phone seems to have followed on from two European scientists; some of Edison's patents were rediscoveries of things tried decades earlier, but not then perceived as being of value.

Look upon science as a journey, as Newton did: If I have seen so far it is only because I stood on the shoulders of giants.

I hope the Beagle business isn't a fiasco. Maybe the Martians shot it down rather than be infected with Blur.
