Given his apparent ambition, doesn't his decision to stand down as an MP strike people as odd? I wonder whether Dracula Howard has some ammunition he's willing to use if little Mikey doesn't disappear from political life.

Lets get Paxman to ask him on Newsnight, after his last (famous) performance, we 'might' get an answer by next Tuesday

It's pretty worrying when even the "let's not jump to conclusions" sections of the press and media are referring to Howard's appointment as a bloodless coup, kind of suggesting he was orchestrating the campaign against whatshisname, that bold bloke, no, not Hague, the guy after him.
Howard worries me. As Billy Shakespeare once wrote, One can smile and smile and be a villain.

I hope his Ammunition backfires taking out the two of them !
Its funny how fast he jumped on the reality tv bandwagon though
(er... 2 years 2 late) perhaps his future lies in the media ...
he might even become political correspondent for the Sport ,fingers crossed.

Maybe the scenes of national jubilation when he lost his seat in 1997 gave him pause and made him rethink the direction of his life. I certainly believe a sizeable section of the Tory Party will consider him the king in waiting.
But I'm in agreement with you, Elton.

There is something just too creepy about the two of them ,
I think having the first Gay leader of the tory party would have been interesting ,very hard work and I couldnt see it going down to well with America ,but all the same time a first and perhaps the start of a Liberal Tory party. When he Outed himself and then re-inn-ed himself but was still opposed to the equalizing of the age of consent and homosexuality in the Military ,I just though hypocrisy.
As for Howard the Coward as Ace points out he is unable to tell the truth even when its a yes no answer.

Don't think Mr Portillo needs worry about what he is going to do now......think we are going to see an awful lot of him on our TV screens. Mind he's not too bad as a TV presenter!
