Sequels more often than not are flops
Might have something to do with we the viewers not being Mentally Stimulated enough
Who Knows?
Escape from NY had a great cast and wasn't just a Kurt Russell vehicle IMHO
cheers

Not so, Magoo. Many of his films - especially his early ones - happen to be very highly regarded in film circles. Regardless of the oft-derided genre(s) he works in, they are widely admired for his deft, unique touch with the basics of film-making: editing, composition, narrative drive, music etc, and the distinct sensory grip his films acquire because of this. You won't find a film expert who rates these qualities beneath any woolly 'intellectualism' because as principals they lie at the very heart of the craft. As with many auteur directors from the left-field he fared badly when working for the majors in the '80's (Big Trouble in Little China/Starman) and his subsequent minor league pieces seem to have faltered (although Prince of Darkness certainly warrants merit). McDonalds films? Only if you're of the McDonalds audience. Assualt on Precinct 13 is a fantastic film by any measure.

Not as good as EFNY, no: does anyone agree that the EFNY theme's one of the best ever?
Dark Star: brilliant.

The monster was in the image of Three dog night from memory
I thought as a suspense film it good but not the best that it could have been...even given that I still thought it worth watching-go figure
Reminds me now of Alien & its sequels
Would be interesting to know where Alan Dean Foster got his ideas from for Alien. Our Subconscious has a lot to answer for
cheers
