. . . .is wrong with east Europeans and those from the former Yugoslavia? Is it my imagination, or does there seem to be a hardcore base of racism within that part of the world?

It would seem FIFA might think so too as I would feel they are looking into it this very moment
One can only hope the person laying on the floor surrounded by police isn't too badly hurt after being what we can only assume is attacked by rival supporters
But the BBC don't give much away, so we will have to wait and see

The Beeb were relying on the home TV broadcaster, and understandably it wasn't too keen to highlight something that would drop the national side in hot water with FIFA.
About time the Show Racism The Red Card campaigners headed east.

Was not too happy about their surrporters burning the English flag before the start of the game........think FIFA should come down on them hard just for that!

If nothing else, it's a provocative action, and likely to cause trouble between the two sets of fans---and therefore should result in severe punishment from FIFA.

I really don't think enough is being done about this to be honest. This particular part of the world has been show time and time again to be guilty of this behaviour from fans and players alike. An immediate ban on international and European club participation should be brought in to combat it.
Lets see if they keep it up after a season of exclusion.
Zero tolerance to racisim and facists.

I agree with everything that's been said. But this seems liek a good springboard to say that i thought Emile Heskey (yet again) had a good performance in the second half, obviously the substitution changed the game as he set up Rooney's goal. This is not the first time that Emile has been subjected to racist abuse and still been one of our best players.
Yes i know, he has his critics and I agree he could do with scoring a few more goals, but i think we missed his presence in the first half, and only he could have done what he did to set up the goal. I also thought the final few minutes of the game were classic, where Becks called Emile over to the corner flag to help run out the clock. Foreign teams have been doing this to us for years, it's about time we learned a few of their tricks.
So its two fingers to all the racists and a pat on the back for the lads especially Becks, Rooney and Emile.
Oh and Sol, next time the ball comes to you a foot off the ground, just boot the ball out of touch.

Dunno why you don't give big Chris Sutton a shout for England playing the Hesky role. Watch him week in week out (well not just now - suspended!) and he's done the damage against decent sides in Europe over the last few years on a regular basis. Ideal partner for any Owen or Rooney if you ask me.

A carthorse.........ask ANY Chelsea supporter!!
ANYONE can look good is Scotland, (look at Gazza on the decline) Thats why Larssen won't move as in England he'd be a 10 goal a season player at best. We Signed Laudrup a few years back as he was shit hot up there, but down here he was an 'ordinary' player in a great team.
Chris Sutton refused to turn out for the England B side and Hoddle dropped him from future plans which IS fair, its an HONOUR to represent your country at ANY level.
