How easy is it to make a film?

Post by Scotty88 »

This is something i'v thought about for a while & just wondering how realistic the chances are. Not to star in it myself, just a few girls from the industry & filmed by me. Not a hollywood blockbuster just a camcorder in a house/hotel. Just wondered the following:

Is it even legal to do?
Would girls even consider this?
How much would it roughly cost?
Once done can the film be sold or would it have to be kept for personal use?

any advice would be appriciated.

Bizarre you should ask that today, given I've just acquired a camcorder.

Happy to film almost anything for free before handing over the disc!

Yes, of course it's legal

Lots of girls are up for this if you can show that your are safe to meet and behave in a civilised way. If you have not worked with anyone before who could give you a reference, they may ask that you book a studio and film them there.

If you plan to film them just playing with themselves budget for about 150 - 200. If you want to participate 300 to 350. Check with them what things they are prepared to do without sounding like a pervert.

Tell them in advance what you want to do with it. If you want to sell it, you should get a copy of their ID and ask them to sign a model release which is a contract allowing you to do what you like with the material you have filmed.

Here's my take:

Is it even legal to do?
Legal to do what? - film a couple of consenting (to appear in front of a camcorder) girls in a house/hotel. I don't see any legal issues. What they do infront of the camera becomes the legal issue. You'll have to think that one through.

Would girls even consider this?
Sure they would, if the price is right.

How much would it roughly cost?
It depends on who they are, how long you want them for, and what is asked of them. A rough estimate is impossible.

Once done can the film be sold or would it have to be kept for personal use?
I guess any film can be sold providing you can find a buyer. The law of the land also needs to be taken into account.

When you said 'house/hotel' my mind told me you lack ambition.

My problem is, not lack of ambition, but lack of funds. I started on my first film 5 years ago, the film is still not finished. It required 5 scenes, I shot and edited 2. A 3rd scene almost happend, but folded due to unforeseen circumstances - one of the models went AWOL, thus I was required to cancel the shoot thus having to inform the other model (she was/is quite well-known) who then refused to anwser my emails, thinking I was a time waster (which I wasn't'). Then my story, what little there was, went out the window. To wrap things up, the plan was to shoot the 3 required scenes in a single day. The locartion would require 3 sets. It all became too much, the thought of getting 4 people all on set for one day. I guess I made a rod for my own back, wanting to achieve Scene's with a desired 'look'. If and when you shot day arrives, even with the best made plans, ideas go out the window, and new ideas come into play. Even with the 2nd scene, the Girl refused to use the planned dildo, everything else was fine, but not the chrome dildo (too hard for her tastes) - lucky enough she had packed her own, which was slighty larger. You live and learn. As for a buyer, you'd have to have something worth buying.

If all your scenes turn out that bad you can lways turn it into a movie cataloguing diasaters making aporn film LOL.

Every producer has had that moment you had. In theory , shooting a porn film is easy. Switch on and point and shoot aty basic. its the people that make it a herculean task.

You summed it up when you said the best laid plans always go out the window. Yup. Sounds about right.

It's interesting that you posed the question as, "How EASY is it to make a film?" rather than, "How difficult is it to make a film?"

I'll answer it this way, it's very easy to make a film which wastes you alot of money and nobody wants to look at, let alone buy.

It's VERY DIFFICULT to make a film, that is dfferent, entertaining and commercial.

The answer is inside your imagination. It has nothing to do with how many models you might have with stuck on giant boobs and big hair, how big your studio set is, whether or not you have a swimming pool and/or how much money you throw at your film.

The so called "Big boys" are losing money hand over fist. Porn is an art form like anything else that is creative. To be "good" doesn't have to be complicated. Porn makers have been lucky for many years, because all they had to do was film people shagging and make money...........this is no longer the case. There are now new complex dynamics within this simple principle and many porn folk simply can't understand why the old formula doesn't work any more.

Who knows what will happen in the future, it's anyones guess.

So in short the simplest of ideas could be more successful than a so called, "Big idea."
