I have come across this articale and it is reffering to the US porn industry and I would like some information on how things work in the UK.

"pornographic actors are particularly vulnerable to sexually transmitted diseases. Data suggest that pornographic actors have a higher rate of STDs (except for HIV) than the general American population. Among 825 performers screened in 2000?2001, 7.7% of females and 5.5% of males had chlamydia, and 2% overall had gonorrhea. These rates are much higher than in patients visiting family planning clinics, where chlamydia and gonorrhea rates were 4.0% and 0.7%, respectively.... Between January 2003 and March 2005, approximately 976 performers were reported with 1,153 positive STD test results. Of the 1,153 positive test results, 722 (62.6 %) were chlamydia, 355 (30.8%) were gonorrhea, and 126 (10.9%) were coinfections with chlamydia and gonorrhea.According to actress Chloe Nicole, "After you've been in this business for a while, you have herpes. Everyone has herpes."

Is this the case with the performers here in the UK or just in the US.

I know some UK performers have worked over there so if you could if me any insight it would be great.

Thanks

Looks like a PR piece for some moral majority group.

The statistics quoted are completely wrong.
The incidence of chlamidia in the general US and UK populations is around 20% [higher than that in the UK for the under 25's]. The incidence in the poen industry is - even on the figures quoted - 25% of that = Porn is safer !

Nobody that I have ever heard of in the US industry has herpes - and we shoot 100 movies a year over there.

Whle I can appreciate statistics are taken from data in their computers systems people seem to forget that there is a lot more new talent coming into the business so therefore it will appear stds are on the increase.

Thing is, for everyone of those peopel coming into the industry, you will find they have a life outside of it and therein lies the problem.

It stands within reason that stds are on the increase but I'd rather shag a porn star than a regular girl who gets laid on a Friday/Saturday night for the fact they get tested once a month versus a girl who gets tested once every 6 months or worse, never at all.

Lets face it, its the "normal" civilians that are just as guilty of bringing stds into the business and porn people shagging out of it that is the main reason.

Think about it, if everyone in it only ever shagged each other stds would be reduced dramatically but that is a pipedream never to be a reality for a business that thrives on new blood
