The Porn Industry & The Pornstar - 70's to now!

I was looking through my porn collection of 20 years.

Going back to the 70's with stars such as Vanessa Del Rio, Seka, Anette Haven, Georgina Spelvin, Aunt Peg, Lisa De Leeuw. Movies were shot on film for companies like Swedish Erotica and time was taken to make these like feature films with a story. Like the Johnny Wadd aka John C. Holmes films. Costly and time consuming.

The 80's saw the video revolution so porn making become quick and easy and hence less money was spent on production and the industry became faster moving. Stars like Ginger Lynn, Amber Lynn, (not related) Jenna Jameson, Susan Hart, Ashlyn Gere came out of this period. Most actresses then had big hair, bad makeup (fucking forget MAC, this was shit) bad lighting and awful editing.

The 90's were a little better than the 80's with better makeup, better everything actually and companies like Vivid came into their own evening establishing themselves on the stock exchange under a different name along side Fraser holdings (Private Corporation). The 90's saw Anal go through the roof and DVD become the popular format. Jenna Jameson also cleverly marketed herself on the web. Any individual pornstar trying to do this as a starting point today is going to find it tricky to make money the way jenna and several others did. Simple reason...the web is over crowded with people trying to be the next big thing. Out of this era came, Brianna Banks, Jenna, the vivid girls and the age of the contract porn super star. Several other companies followed suit including Wicked and VCA.

In this decade, technology has moved up a notch yet again. Phone downloads, internet video streaming, live web broadcasts. The material we often see on webpages has become even more hardcore and leaning towards the shock factor on some sites rather than the standard hardcore material seen earlier. I can't really say who are the big stars today for no other reason than, I don't think there are any that stand out. The reason being The girls we see today are hotter, sexier and more hardcore. But because the industry has become less taboo, more people are wanting in. So can't answer that, maybe you out there can give me your opinion? The UK is a tiny little island, we don't have the budget of the US companies but we have the personalities and cheekiness that is somehow missed in the states. It's a bit like watching The Office with Ricky Gervais then watching the American version of the office. Something missing! They don't quite get the British dry sense of humour.

favourite stars of their era
70's Seka, Lisa De Leuuw, Kelly Nichols
80's Susan Hart, Ginger Lynn
90's Jenna Jameson, Brianna Banks

I personally think there are about 5 really fantastic girls in the UK who have potential to be massive if they make the move and go to the USA or find the right marketing in this country.

cheers

Watching the old stuff shot in the late 80s and early 90s and comparing them with todays movies is like comparing a restaurant dish and a fast food dish. Not saying my stuff is any good, but the general standard.

Today scenes are churned out as fast as they can be, models have too much work and too picky or expensive and wield too much power and the budget to shoot a scene today is very often a joke.

I spoke to a guy Friday who says a major EU studio buy in whole DVDs for 2,000 Euros for world right. What can be shot for that? But some are.

You pay peanuts you get monkies comes to mind.

Vanessa Del Rio was one of my favourites wow! what a naughty lady, fashions in porn always change to suit the law, customers etc & will keep on changing.
Customers now get bored watching a full length film & go for DVD's with various short scenes a bit like Colour Climax did years ago, wonder if they knew something we didn't.
Porn was better years ago for producers when blue films were like gold bars but now they are more like Mars bars with little return & only the true stick with it. With porn being as commercial as it is now it will be harder & harder for newbys to get a foot in, loads we know are using Adult Work or using the under the counter policy as it earns them more money.

This is so true. The price has fallen and along with it the amount of money we can invest in it. Given the difference in the models today the product will never compete on a porn level.

Strength, quality or image and style move forward. You can't produce something better for less money today than you had 10 years ago.
