I'm doing some research on porn shops in the UK in the past. My own memories only go back to the early nineties (and only in London), and I'd be interested in any stories or details that any of you (particularly the older forum members) can come up with. Which were the best shops? The dodgiest? Who was running them? Prices etc? When I started buying them there were a lot of the ones in Soho and around Kings Cross that I presumed were illegal and they usually had ring-binders full of the sleeves, but sometimes gave you the wrong film on a VHS... Any one else's memories or stories greatly appreciated. Particularly, does anyone remember the shop that was on the corner of Bethnal Green Road and Redchurch St in east London? It's still there (derelict) but I walk past it most mornings and often wonder about it...

Hello, This has also been posted in an old posting ,had it open for reference. My memories go back to the 70s,when it was all magazines. Tottenham Court Road had a fair few under the counter types my first hardcore view was there. The following year saw my first hardcore film .The other locations were Villiers Street one Porno Shop there. Leicester Sq just of it, Soho several (That was in the days when it had a rip off reputation.) The ones in TCR had the same familiar faces , the ones in Soho more transient.By the late 70s Cinemas sprang up and they took of,all in all different time and more of a buzz buying it the

Whilst I've never been ripped off from a London shop (I started buying porn from them around 1996), at the same time I wen into a shop in Aldershot and paid ?25 for what I thought was an original VHS hardcore tape but turned out to be a copy of a softcore US Ron Jeremy film! Wet behind the ears then, I just dumped it. Now I'd storm in there and demand my money back and a blow job from his daughter.
