Should I just say I want a double room for the afternoon,
This just screams 'boss booking a room for a bonk with his secretary/whore'.

If you are shooting in Birmingham avoid City Inn, Marriot, Copthorne, Jury's Inn, Hyatt and Novotel - too small.
Hotel Du Vin is stunning
A suite at Malmaison is also very nice Normal rooms are fairly small, though very nice.
Premier apartments are really discrete as there is an intercom system but unfortunatelly overlook the outdoor market, but you have the advantage of basically hiring an apartment for the cost of a hotel.
Or there is SACO House offering the same on Hagley Road
The only hotel I know that actively encourages togs is the Sherlock Holmes Hotel in Baker Street (naturally) in sunny London
Very very nice loft suite.

Hi, having booked hotels on many occassions to do shoots i can probably give you some advice, first thing is you book a room for the night not for the afternoon and then find out when their earliest check in time is ,for most of the larger groups of hotels it is 1-3pm, book a double room and unless you know otherwise a smoker because a lot of the girls do, and always make sure you have en suite facilities, you would need to get there an hour before the model to give you time to check in and set all the gear up, get the model to call you on your mobile when she is in the car park and go down and meet her and offer to her carry her bag/s to the room and its never a bad thing to have a bottle or two of wine on the side and some light snacks, once the shoot is over remember that you still have the room until the next morning so if you are really keen you can book one model for the afternoon and another for the evening after that you may just need the room for a kip yourself!happy!

And so is Blanche House and the Hotel Du Vin is great too
Hotel Pelirocco
And if you can get over to Nottingham check out Harts and The Lace Market Hotel though the cctv everywhere might put you off and even a hint of cigarette smoke will cause mass hysteria and ????'s taken from your wallet.

I have used loads of hotel rooms, either by model choice or my own or by co-incidence, and generally, no one has hassled me.
The hilton in Birminham sulked a bit, but i was like DUDE ITS MAX POWER HALF NAKED SHICKS EVERYWHERE! heh
Days Inn in birminham is nice and they are easy going
I find Travel Inns and Travelodges to be the most lax and not really bothering the guests, I mean I had a FULL studio setup multiple courtenay heads, gear everywhere a few cameras on the side wired all over the place and the manager knocks on the door and says 'can you lower the volume a little please' and i'm like oh sorry didnt realise. They had to have CLEARLY seen the gear but said nothing
Just book in and be brazen

BUT...
Always remember that if you don't get written permission for what you are doing the hotel could sue you for damages if they think that your actions damage the reputation of the place.
