I have had trouble with Nochex, I once ordered from Cathy Barry's website with no trouble at all, but when I used my Nochex account again on another website/websites, it would not authorise my password or user name. I tried, and I tried and I tried...but it was no use!! Even tried changing my password but still nothing!!!??? I never used Nochex again, Nice idea but shame its not user freindly. It certianly was a pain in the butt!!
I'm just one of those who had a bad experience with Nochex so can only speak for myself, however I'm sure there are loads of people who use Nochex with no trouble at all.

I wonder how much trade Jay is losing.

With respect there isnt much I can do if a credit card company refuses a card transaction - they (as any card company) wont tell me ANYTHING about the reasons why (which Im sure most people are very glad to hear) so all I can do is suggest to customers the usual things like check the billing address given matches the address on file for the card company etc

Im sorry if my responses didnt seem helpful but I do remember this instance and I thought was helpful and suggested what I could but either way my hands are tied - as for how much business I am losing I reckon I lose about 10 orders a week due to cards being refused. Whether this is due to the NoChex system or due to genuine reasons which any card company would refuse on I cant say as they wont tell me.

The ideal scenario for me would be to have my own merchant account with a bank but no UK bank will touch me due to the nature of the business and my lack of a track record. The only other option is some of the US clearing companies which then restricts me to taking only credit (and not debit cards) plus charges fees of up to 15% per transaction. If I went with a company like this I would have to increase my prices as it would leave it barely worth my whole to fulfil an order so its a vicious circle - the vast majority of my competitors are outside the UK and have trading records so dont have the crap I have to put up with from UK banks and even if they werent, due to their stupidly high prices, they can afford fees which I just cant absorb without passing on to my customers which I dont want to do.

In short, NoChex is not perfect but it works for the large majority of my customers and it suits me perfectly for the time being - to anyone who has been unable to order from me using them I apologise but unfortunately there is nothing I can do about it.

Hmmm - I've got accounts with both PayPal and NoChex and get far more hassle with the first than the latter.

Mind you, might be due to my paying through personal e-mail addresses rather than company ones and you should NEVER mention what you are buying with either - e.g. Don't go putting 'Lesbian Lather Lust Vol 234' in the subject line. 100% chance of getting it bounced!

Jay you were very helpful with your reply to me and and I did check with my card company.Everything was fine. The problem was with Nochex I presumed that they only deal with debit cards as when I was refused the payment method had changed. As you suggested I used the same card on the same day with another supplier.I can only think that some card companies have problems with Nochex.
