Filming your own amateur moo-vies

This isn't something I am considering myself, but I am curious as to how widespread a practice this is, that is to say some random amateur bloke approaching an agency and booking a model for a hardcore shoot. Is this common?

No, I was asking purely in the most abstract terms -- how commonly does this sort of thing happen?
I observed in a previous post that the dividing line between being an "adult actress" and a prostitute is somewhat ill-defined in the above scenario, i.e. where an actress does a hardcore scene with an amateur film maker. Indeed, someone in the below "Porn Prodicing is Shit" thead points out, very insightfully, that a high-class hooker will set you back 700 quid-or-so fo a few hours whereas a porn actress could be had for even less and would perhaps even engage in things a hooker wouldn't (anal, deepthoating etc.) and you'd have a film at the end of things to boot.
Just a thought, mind.

I think it depends on whether you are talking about 'paid for' amateur movies i.e. strangers or 'just for fun' amateur movies i.e. genuine couples. I'm sure there are thousands of the later in existance, some of which get posted or distributed on the net but probably the vast majority of which are hidden in the wardrobe on an old vhs camera or tape! And, I would say that some of these 'films' are probably absolutely cracking although somewhat lacking in production quality. I for one have such a film that I shot and I posted a few vidcaps on a website and the response was extraordinary.

oops, just read your message properly and I can see that you were referring to the 'paid for' amateur movies. Ignore my previous reply!

That is a good reply from someone who obviously knows the industry. From a 'punters' point of view (film buyer, not hooker user!) I think the industry does suffer from an unnecessary image compared to other countries that I've visited and I think a lot of that image is due to our draconian laws and general way of doing business in Britain. The authorities just don't help with their censorship and I'm not just talking about film censorship, it goes deeper than that - have you seen the outside of a sex shop (if you can find one) in any town in the uk? Blacked out windows, dodgy lighting, back street alleys etc its no wonder the industry is perceived by Joe Public as seedy if that's how its portrayed. I'm not suggesting sex shops with bright shop fronts in every shopping centre but some half-way-house would be better, surely? I think the whole industry needs to get more 'legitimised' as a bona-fide industry that people will be proud to be working in, and not just the performers but its going to take a sea change in opinion by the authorities to make this happen.
