instead of the relentless gonzo...

Post by golostruda »

...can we see a return to spoof style films like we had in the 1980s. My ideal Britporn movie would be called "the A2M girls". In it the two or three lead actresses will play gossip columnists in a similar vein to the Mirror's 3am Girls. However, in order to fill their gossip column, the A2M girls create their own sex scandals by going around and shagging "celebrities" (the male performers) in all manner of filthy ways, then writing about it. If someone made a film based on this premise I would buy fifty copies [well, OK, at least one].

It would be nice to have the budget to shoot such features I have written a few spoofs myself, but the cost are huge. To shoot my St Tropez gonzo faeture cost me nearly ?40k in the death, will I get it back who knows? But some of are trying to give as much as poss.
I know Viv Thomas puts alot of money into his productions, maybe his films might be worth a look.

no offence to marino - i will be odering some more of your dvd's once i check out the st tropez visit on your web site - but relish vids tend towards a non gonzo format.

like marino's site there is a lot of pictures and details of their productions so you get a good idea what you will get - unlike some producer's where things can be hit and miss.

i've been very pleased with the films i have, both from relish and marino.

And me, I think I spend a few quid on a film, if fact probably more than most. But I am the first to agree its about marketing, still I have that sorted now. I am sure you will all find out in the next few days about my co-operation with AVN and the best guys in the industry, 252 pages of adult industry reviews and news have a look at www.blueprintxxx.com and I am sure you will work out where its going.

Is where the show stuff is going so give me a mail you lot and get on the mailing list for it all, London 2005 is going to be the biggest porn show in Europe.
I say the word porn because thats what it will be, a smut filled denn of perversion. If you leave un-offened you get your money back and your daughter is allowed out the cage, blinfold removed and allowed to wash her ass.

i think you've hit it on the head. marketing is the key. one only has to look at for example the private films. they spend high budgets, have beautiful girls, often have extended plots, but even with the glossy production, i find them bland and erotic rather than horny and exciting. but they seem to sell high numbers of product.

yourself, relish, marino, omar, OEJ, ben, kim, wendy, marcus* etc all make fine work, but marketing lets you down as far as making the big ?'s, $'s or euros. ITS NOT THE PRODUCT, especially the girls - who are better than most american performers - but getting it promoted, and to the customer.

also after the post about what you guys make and sell to commerial suppliers, some still sell at ?5 - 9 more than producers do to customers, not including their direct profit from from buying at such a reduced price, and still sell them.

wouldn't more co-operation amongst you reduce cost and allow bigger sales?

maybe i'm being naive? most of you who post seem to be friendly with each other [with a few exceptions]. especially as many of you have to use european distribution to circumvent our crazy laws. there's economy of scale'

* sorry if i've left any formites out, especially the specialised producers [CP, watersports etc]

As said above we'd all like to have bigger budgets. In some cases some would like to have any kind of budget. The problem is that we are all competing for what isn't in reality a very big market unless like you suggest it is marketed & promoted abroad. And that ain't cheap. The idea of us all coming together ( great pun Dave ) is great but a). There are way to many of us. b). Who does what exactly ? c). Who gets what excactly and most importantly d). Who pays ? I'm sure that even if all us clubbed together we still wouldn't raise enough money. The money in this biz goes to the girls ( on the day of shooting ) and the distributors at the other end of things not to us producers.

Dave -
I wasn't suggesting it would be easy. but its easier to find the problems than find the solutions.

that there's so many of you suggests that there is a healthy market and that's just in britain. and that's without selling to the other europeans and the US.

UK filth is at it?s best when it?s ?Sweeny Porn?. When it?s gritty, no holds barred, and tends to view life from behind a saucy wink. Most consumers tend to love domestic smut because it lacks ?Vivid?, soft focus production values. This doesn?t however, necessarily mean that punters don?t want some story/narrative/plot before the cast start fucking.

In an increasingly dull pornography scene, dominated by the major US and European studios, our rough and ready approach is something of a unique selling point. We have a reputation in the mainstream film world for producing quality films, low on cost but high in ambition, and I?ve never sussed why that doesn?t cross into our pornography? No one does sex and comedy better then us. Our entire film industry has been based on it for years.

Sadly, whilst dwarfish newspaper proprietors sit counting their cash in their Essex mansions, the monopoly on selling smut to a large audience (with the associated effect of increasing profit) is strangled at birth by UK law. For the first time in years, people producing smut in Britain no longer treat the punter with a Barnum ?there?s a sucker born every minute? mentality, they genuinely want to offer decent muck at a fair price.

A sex shop licence application in Westminster (one of the few councils that will grant them) costs ?24,000 At the present time, we have some of the most draconian laws covering sexual behaviour of any developed democracy. Britain also has the highest rates of teenage pregnancy in any western country, and we top the European league table for sexually transmitted infections. Despite these areas of serious concern, the majority of the nation still seems unable to engage in any conversation relating to sex without turning into giggling school children or taking the chance to blindly condemn. It?s easy to draw the conclusion that there is something in the British psyche that finds sex deeply strange and confusing.

If straight producers think they?ve got it tough, talk to gay smut directors who have to travel abroad to shoot group scenes. As UK law currently prohibits more then two gay men having sex on film.

Until someone decides to grasp the ?freedom? mantle, and appears in court for ?vocally? selling muck of no socially redeeming value whatsoever, we will continue to live under the cosh. Porn consumers will fell ashamed of their ?hobby?, producers will fail to make decent money, feature length films that are equally of value as comedy and wank fodder will not appear, and distributors will remain the villain of the piece.
The revolution will not be televised, but even if Marino manages to capture a blinding double anal the BBFC won?t let us see it.
