"Behind The Scenes"

So, we're into another year and as usual I'm thinking of new ideas for future releases. One idea that was suggested to me was to release some of my "behind the scenes" footage.
What I've got is around 20+ hours of footage of solo girl with toys, girl/girl and boy/girl scenes. These are different to what I'm releasing already, because they were shot only as photo shoots and will therefore be 'new' scenes.
To make the whole thing more interesting I'm thinking of picking the best scenes and making it a double disc with around SIX hours of content (three hours each disc). But the best bit is it will still sell for the same price as a single disc!
So, what I'm looking for is constructive feedback. Do you think it's a good idea? Does it need to be fine tuned in any way? What else, if anything could be done to make it better? etc etc.
Over to you...........

Hi John,

I joined Johnny Rebel (great site, by the way!) so I've seen some of your backstage/behind the scenes material, like the Nadia photo shoot. 2 discs for the price of one, at 3 hours a go sounds like a damn good deal to me.

I guess the only thing that could improve on it would be an additional commentary or some such, to give an even greater insider viewpoint than the viewer is already getting, as I believe this is where the true appeal of behinds the scenes style stuff lies. You know, a few anecdotes about the models etc.

I assume you will be including photo galleries of the finished product from the shoot on the disc as well?

Other than that, there's not a lot more you can add to it!

hmm. Just a personal opinion but for me sometimes behind the scenes footage can be a bit of a turn off. I remember watching some behind the scenes material at Viv Thomas's site of the lovely Sarah Daykin. The original edited scene was very sexy but the behind the scenes version just showed how much hard work it was for the lucky guy with her to maintain an erection. Very unerotic. I bought a few ALScan DVD's too and hated the constant click of the camera's and the stopping for shots all the time - apparently a lot of the videos on the SUZEvideo site have the same limitations. Destroys the "suspension of disbelief" effect.

On the other hand if it's a way of seeing moving footage of someone in action you would normally see just in photos, or of adding another dimension to a photo series such as showing extra material that didn't make it past the cutting room floor then why not. I think as long as there are some periods where models are not stopping for shots and are just allowed to let themselves go there would be enough to interest me. Outtakes showing the humorous or more human side of the production and the interplay between models and photographer/director can also be fun to watch - sometimes.

Also this sort of thing can work very well when the camera is just left to roll in something like the Amateur series you and One Eyed Jack make - I think there its a case of adding to the sense of fun and general sexual anarchy. I like that.

What about multi-angle or using the multi-angle functionality to link you to the second behind the scenes shoots. If you can show the viewer the finished article and the making of it may give the behind the scenes stuff a little more interest.

I have also always thought doing some split screen stuff showing both ends of the lady in question may also work if done right. At the end of the day if she is busy at both ends you want to see it all don't you?

Finally I tend to like the bits on DVD's today where after the main action you get a bit at the end where the guy(s) concentrate on the girl and bring her off. It comes across as very realistic which sometimes is difficult to convey on film. Could be a bit more interesting if you could do something like that during the scene itself.

I find it much more erotic than the finished product. It's the reality thing of seeing the real girl behind the facade of the model. I joined the Viv Thomas site just to see the backstage stuff.

Sounds excellent value, John. An overall commentary would be a good idea to link the bits together and give a more balanced production as I suspect there'll be a bit of uneveness in the material you have. This would also help set it apart from your other stuff.

You might also consider doing the whole thing from the model's point of view. Obviously most of the footage is in the can, but add a new shoot with a girl who can read a bit of script, have her pose a few questions and match with some relevant clips from the existing material and you could have something that is better than the sum of its parts. I can think of a couple of girls who might be able to do it.

Some food for thought there guys! I wanted to do some photo galleries on my other DVD's but the label seem to think nobody would be interested in them, so if enough of you want them I'll see what I can do! (I know they lurk this site!)
I also think the audio commentary is a great idea. Instead of doing it in the studio I think I should get a few of the girls around and do the audio recording in a pub! Loads of background noise and the girls can really let their hair down and take the piss out of themselves. You know the "oh my god do I really make faces like that when I'm being fucked!" type thing, or "You bastard you didn't edit out the bit with my ...............!"
Anyway I spoke to the label today and they think it's a good idea to do one or two a year, so it looks like it should be on the shelves by late spring.......now all I've got to do is sort through the 20+ hours of raw footage!

Hi John

I think it's a good idea what your doing & we hope they sell well, we also have hours of footage stored away because we feel it's too short etc to put out as a movie so this could be a way forward for us film makers.
As long as picture galleries are not put there to lengthen disc's & are there as a added bonus i feel they are a good idea.

Hi Kim,

The pictures would be there as a bonus. the only problem I have is do I just do an edit with them (say 20 pix per scene) or do I put them ALL on (around 1,000 pix per DVD!)

Hi John

I've just ask Spencer to put all the Bukkake pics from 3 of our film shoots on as a gallery which should be about 400-450 pics, the film is 3hrs long so were not taking anything away from the customer. I would go for a larger amount because i've always done this myself on DVD's, John editeds on the pinnacle 8.5 which is a good programme to do film & pics. Customers can if they wish either let it go as a slideshow every 10 secs or use the DVD remote to flick through quicker pausing on pics if they wish.
If your thinking of doing a 6hr film then yes use a 1000 pics, the longer dics is a great idea & if you want to push your films into America you will need these extra special bits as they love showing off with galleries & music videos etc.
