Here in the states skilled labourers/tradesmen and some unskilled workers we call or used to call "blue collar" workers and people who work in the office are called "white collar" workers.

I always find it rash to accuse/assume political agendas just because someone disagrees with you. It's done far too often for my liking and I prefer to argue the point raised, rather than the assumed agenda behind the point, which may be true/untrue anyway. It detracts from the argument and is an underhanded way to insult.
Having said that, I've fallen into the trap of doing it myself I guess, but I try not to if I can help it.
Emotive subjects are always the hardest to debate rationally.
