Sam, thanks. I might post more, and bump up the arsehole quota.

Sadly, discussions on here are too often drowned out by absurd perversions of reductio ad absurdum. No one needs to look too far to find them.

But that's probably just me being an arsehole.

"Sadly, discussions on here are too often drowned out by absurd perversions of reductio ad absurdum"

Well, I am sure you are very welcome on this forum.

However, if the worst you come across is "absurd perversions of reductio ad absurdum" then you will be getting off somewhat lightly, I must say.

I have been accused of being "dishonest, disingenuous, deceitful, slimy" and then told to fuck off, whilst the specific poster refuses to reply to any of my posts ever again until I have made a full apology for a perceived insult (pot, kettle etc.) to him.

Another poster hoped I got every form of cancer going. The same poster accused Sam of having "excrement for brains". I think the discussion was about football.

Or there was this comment from Mr. Slater

""I did, and my question wasn't about the Wests, you thick cunt. "

""reduction to absurdity" or "εις άτοπον απαγωγή" You should be so lucky.

The former American President Bill Clinton released a statement earlier saying he hopes Scotland votes to remain in the Union, I don't think there are any world leaders or ex world leaders saying anything different:

I predict 54 no to 46 yes. It appears that saying you are going to vote No gets a very aggressive response from the Braveheart Sporran Wearers so I think a lot of people will say one thing then vote different.

Whichever side wins, and it will probably be the 'no' lot, will only just win. I hope the other side take the defeat in a calm, measured, way and there is no trouble.

Not so sure.....the YES campaigners seem to have a lot of Anti English anger. I hope Next, M&S and other English businesses have strong shutters.

If there is a win by several percent then the losing side will, I am sure, accept it. If however the winning side wins by a fraction, like how Bush won in the USA a few years ago, then the losing side will relentlessly go on about how they were cheated out of it - certain ballots weren't counted properly, the crowds who showed up at 9.55pm at the polling stations and were told only the first few can vote because at 10.00pm the polls close, the fact 'ex pats' (Scots in other parts of the UK) weren't allowed to vote, and all that crap, will be shouted for ages afterwards because the losing lot will feel short-changed. I hope the winners don't win by a nose but by a whole body-length at least (forgive the horse-racing analogy). If that happens then the losing side will have to accept it. I fear a slight win though, a win for the 'no' lot, and that will mean the 'yes' contingent freaking out about how they should have won, and a small number within their ranks will probably cause trouble.

"the YES campaigners seem to have a lot of Anti English anger."

A real political English/Scottish divide is now on the cards with voices such as John Redwood sprouting about an English parliament and when challenged on this by Peter Hain Redwood hit back 'but your Welsh?' whatever happens many English voters will be listening to any voice who claim they represent the English interests.
