Not read all the posts, but I can assure you Nottingham is a very dangerous place. The drug issue is a major one as is the city centre that has a pub/poncey bar every 5 steps. It is overrun with lager louts that get tanked up cheap. Aimed initially at the massive student numbers that frequent its excellent university, it has got out of control to the point where the local Chief Superintendant has grave misgivings about the future of the town. Can't comment on the mainly coloured population as it does have a multi-cultured society, and St Annes is VERY VERY rough with a high drug and prostitution problem. That aside, it is a damned pity an innocent 14 year old got killed, I was more sorry and hurt for her parents and family than I was for Ken Bigleys, I will say that

From the BBC web site article about gun crime.
Bill Brown, chairman of the Disarm Trust.
"Before the two girls were shot in Birmingham, I think
it was seen as turf wars, black-on-black, between drug
dealers," said Mr Brown.
"But we found, more than anything, the exclusion of young
black males is behind gun crime. We found out that more
black men are being incarcerated than going to university.
"There are missing fathers. There are no role models in the
lives of these people, no mentors. This is a deep rooted
social problem."
