Let's just say it's the danger of having the joint credit for all the songs they wrote in The Beatles. The big clue as to whose song it was is who performs the lead vocal. Lennon occasionally wrote Macca-type songs (Goodnight on the White album, sung by Ringo, is pure Macca----except it was Lennon).

At the top of his game, no one wrote lyrics like Pal Macartney. Check out For No One on Revolver.

We only have McCartneys word that he & Lennon had that agreement. Nobody else knows about it. And it wasn't only the one song he changed it was many. Plus Lennon had absolutely no hand in writing the Long & Winding Road, Eleanor Rigby, You Won't See Me & many others which he admitted. Also McCartney had absolutely no hand in Girl or She Said, She Said & Across The Universe and others which he has admitted. In fact they are in agreement about the composer credits for most of their songs except a few. This with McCartney changing the credits was all for his ego & so that people know that songs like Yesterday or Let it Be & The Long & Winding Road, were by him. Or songs like Hey Jude & Penny Lane that he was the main composer. But most people already know this & if you didn't know, would you really care who's name was in front of who's. So why bother changing them. You don't see Keith Richards. who wrote most of Gimme Shelter or all of Happy & Slipping Away on his on asking for the credits to be changed to Richards/Jagger. Or Mick who wrote all of Brown Sugar on his on asking for Keith to be removed from the credits. Similarly with Lost in The Supermarket or Should i Stay or Should I Go were Mick Jones was the main composer he didn't ask for the credits to be changed to Jones/Strummer. McCartney was making a fuss about nothing. To make himself seem better!

Caractacus is right it was usually who wrote the song who sung the lead vocal. With a few exceptions such as said Godnight on the white Album by Lennon, though sounds so McCartney that most people thought it was him. And of course Every Little Thing on Beatles for Sale, which is by McCartney but a very Lennonish song and Lennon takes the lead vocal. Also Eight Days a Week, which was a joint credit though mainly by McCartney. And though they both sing it Lennon Takes The Lead & McCartney the Harmony & the same with Day Tripper & Joint Composition though mainly by Lennon, McCartney takes the Lead & The Lennon the Harmony.

Also about Backbeat. A great movie & it is great about their early career. But it does have a few discrepencies & Paul & John singing wrong songs!

It is. A few ropey moments, but the guys playing the band are great, the music has a raw feel to it, and there are some hilarious bits.

Also about Backbeat. It is a great Movie & is about the early days of the Beatles in Hamburg with Stuart Sutcliffe in the band. Apart from a few discrepincies & Paul & John singing wrong songs, it's pretty much spot on.
