I couldn't agree more, Lara and I started jimslip.com in 2003 and beating all the odds, it has consistently grown from strength to strength. Not everyone in the World who likes porn wants to download some free shit off a tube site. It's like music, why hasn't I Tunes gone bankrupt, after all you can get music for free everywhere?
It doesn't matter what you do and what your circumstances are, you have to retain a positive attitude. Negativity spreads like a nasty virus, it brings everybody around it down and it is very destructive! It is already infecting this thread, together with those who post and worse of all, the thousands who simply read.
Imagine if the guy below had been this negative in the face of seemingly insummountable odds!

"From what I recall you've already got loads of your own content."
From what you recall ? No sorry, you got the wrong bloke mate. I have very little of 'my own content'. At a guess I'd say about 10 scenes. And they are jointly owned with Remington Steele who ain't doing to good out of them either !

Probably and good luck to em. There isn't a more positive person in the biz than me when it comes down to the shooting. It's just all that other stuff that puts me off ! Pre and post production, admin etc etc suck !

No I haven't. You offered me loads of sets back in February 2003. I've got the e-mails here and it seems to match your e-mail address.
21st February 2003 if you'd like to check what you wrote.
I contacted you after this post although I wasn't the thread starter

My ONLY comment about this 'boys club' would be sure I was indeed quite alarmed that someone with experience and knowledge wasn't invited in or then allowed in at all. But the one thing that seems to have come from it's inception is that it's pretty useless anyhow. Many people have left it and can't be bothered with it. I rest my case
The same people you say have left were the same peopel that didnt want you in it Dave. Me? I wasnt fussed. I personally thionk everyone should attend these things so we can all meet up but the same people yo ulevy this claim about being an "old boys club" , come on Dave, was it any more or less that when the people you knew that have now left.
Those that are in it dont see it as useless at all.
Its better to have a frontline than none at all and the past years metings were very satisfactory for us because we hav elearned and picked up things, shared resources and done things that have been detrimental to our business.
Of course you are entitled to think what you want but I find it is the old guard of grumpy grandads that put down this association because they are pissed ioff that they are not in charge of it and were also pissed off that they couldnt control and manipulate it to suit their own ends either.
Personally I am glad it didnt turn out like that.
If UKAP are useless it is simply because it is met with negativie reisstance like yours Dave, but I guess th eindustry doesnt really care about taking itself forward unless it is lining its own pockets instead of trying to take care of things that facilitate making better business for ourselves as producers and failure to recognise that is ehat is keeping this business from ever moving forward.
I guess the thinking of the "old guard" since you call us "an old boys club" is to struggle and maintain a status quo that is gradually slipping through their fingers or even already lost to the army of "new bloods" that are invading it from every corner.
As I said, the business is constantly evolving and there are people who have come on board a lot later doing quite well even during these hard times instead of expecting hand outs for what they see as being overlooked.

You moaned referring to UKAP:
"My ONLY comment about this 'boys club' would be sure I was indeed quite alarmed that someone with experience and knowledge wasn't invited in or then allowed in at all. Truly, your negativity, Dave, is like a disease spreading like a plague throughout this forum. You are belittling everything and everybody apart from yourself. I am not a member of UKAP, for various reasons, but its original idea and intentions were quite laudable and its existence is a good thing.
In another post you proudly say that you can't be bothered with the "Admin" etc of being a "Producer". This is part and parcel of being a "Producer" and this is why, only a "Producer" can be a member of a "Producers" forum, not as Terry says, a "Hired hand".
This is the difference between a hired hand and a producer:
Hired Hand
Has no responsibility, arrives on set, gets told what to do, picks up his cash and goes home, puts his feet up and opens a beer!Happy days!
Benefits: Limited income /no responsibility.
Producer
Days before said shoot, tearing your hair out trying to find talent and crew. Finding locations, dealing with all the external factors that are trying to wreck your shoot. Shoot happens by the skin of it's teeth, go home and crash out in bed saying, "How the fuck can I keep putting myself through this!"
Benefits High earnings (If lucky)down side/ an early grave!
Seems like you want all the financial benefits of a successful producer, without any of the hassle. Life's not that peachy mate!

Photo sets !!!!!
Yes true I have got loads actually but we weren't talking about photo sets really. Generally we were discussing video content.
The bottom dropped out of the photo set market long ago. That's why all the mags here are all but dead.
And with reference to 'our' communication with each other I don't recall it to be honest. If it had been worth it I would obviously remember it. Or what the outcome was but I can probably guess that it wasn't particularly worth me scanning all the transparencies because you wanted something to cheap which nicely proves my whole point !!
