IMHO the decline became apparant and the real rot set in during 1997.

The start of Phony Blair and New Labour, and how everyone was so taken in by people so obviously insincere and on the make, was when I realised we were on a slippery slope, and this was proved in the aftermath of Diana's death - mass hysteria and phony "grief" with Blair centre-stage spouting off about the "people's princess" and the whole country being told what to think and how to behave. It made me ill! It was the start of the no-brain celebrity-obsessed "society" that has gotten steadily worse every year. People have lost the ability to think for themselves.

Wheyhey, Rudey! Yes, I had been in the doldrums for a while ? pressure of work and all that ? but there was so much being said that I need to pass comment on that I just had to shake myself out of it. Then, once rejuvenated and my zest for posting restored, I found myself in such an agreeable state of mind that I thought I would treat all you good folks to one of my many fascinating and amusing anecdotes - delivered in my very own inimitable style. And what more uplifting and edifying tale could I tell than one of chav chinning and pikey punching?

I found the immediate post-Diana period intollerable. It really did make me incredibly depressed to see people actually behaving like they were in some sort of mass trance, it sickened me and I don't think things have changed or will change now. I will always rebel when being told what to think, how to act, at the time time of her funeral I cut the ghostly silence with the sound of my grasscutter and a Motown cd.
Mass hysteria about some event in the news is becoming a regular occurence. 9/11 a case in point, I remember the day it happened people rushing around saying "oh my god some nutters have driven planes in to the world trade centres" my response was "what are they? Where are they? Oh well, it will make a good film for Hollywood". And guess what, my cynicism was spot-on. And all that has happened since 9/11 in the ways of hysterical legislation has been allowed to happen by a public that has been mentally neutered (though that doesn't just apply to the UK).
