Hi Marty

I've only ever realeased 3 films on DVD, one of these is still selling well 3yrs after release & it done well under the counter for 4yrs beforehand but the other 2 only lined the BBFC's pocket as the DVD sales have fell badly.
I have 30 other films to release but for now its best for me to put them on my download site until things improve (if they ever do).
In the good old days before R18 we could earn well & with most of my friends now selling from abroad so as not to pay any BBFC you can see something is pretty f@~ked in this country, when you have to leave the UK to make money it becomes a sad affair.
Streaming now seems the biggest & best earner for us & within the next few years we will be saying goodbye to the DVD format completely unless something is done (not sure what).

Kim

Here's one for you JimSlip...

I just read that King Kong has anihiliated the records for DVD sales in it's first week of release in the States.... and it's been available for download from the Universal site..... Now what was that you said about the Titanic and the String quartet..... and the death of DVD....

... face it!!... DVD is gonna be around for a long time yet.... Downloads and IPTV may be the technology of the future.... I don't know... I'm no Futurologist... But I'll think I'll stick around with DVD for a wee while yet.... as Millions can't be wrong... can they ??? Ha,Ha,Ha,Ha,.......

Well Vivid seem to have taken a huge step in the right direction with a Burn to DVD service:

From Wired The prices for a DVD by download are the same as a traditional DVD, about $25 per feature, and your homemade DVD sports the same menu system, chapter navigation and any interactive features included with the original. Print the jacket art, add a jewel case and it's just like the real thing, without a trip to the store.

The catch is that you'll only be able to burn the file to a DVD once, thanks to the proprietary burn software included with your purchase.

OK you still have DRM but at least you can burn the file and of course there is the problem of the download itself i.e. time and what if Windows dies (you just know it will).

That's a good point. On Strictly Broadband we have some very glossy (and expensive) productions from the likes of Private, and a lot of "raw" stuff from Ben Dover, John Mason, Pumpkin, etc.

The British productions featuring people enjoying real sex sell better than those featuring beautiful people shagging beautifully in beautiful places. We've had an older Ben Dover title in the top 5 for weeks!

out of interest, are there loads of over-40s on this site or something? I've seen loads of posts about the good old days, the 80s,...slow build ups...soft focus...glamour...hairy pussies (you cant be serious)...mystique...plotlines (watch a proper film if you want a plot)..blah blah.

as a 25 year old, nothing bores me mre than watching that old shit with some plinky plonky music in the background, while some thinly devloped plot eventually sputters into a boring shag featuring to ken-alike studs and some bird with a perm.

there are finally some uk producers knocking out decent porn now, that can compete with european and US production houses. Not just the hard-edge stuff (MAI productions) but the more mainstream stuff as well, like rude britiannia.

hopefully nostalgia will remain just that and the uk industry wont take a step backwards. in terms of format, i buy the odd dvd but i generally stream and i reckon this is going to be become the prime revenue stream in years to come. there is no point adopting a luddite posture, the internet is taking over and thats a simple fact.

while that means that producers are competing in a global market, it will also allow for seriously big revenues for the ones that suceed, although i wouldnt like to be the one to think how i was going to promote a porn site today, with all the competition thats out there, especially if i was the one footing the expense of shooting original content.

ps -that guy on this thread who is going on about "these chavs and you can tell its the first time they've worn stockings" - eh? do you suppose that in the 802, porn stars went round dressed in nothing but lingerie or something?

As an over 40 myself, I agree with you!

I can remember purchasing 'porn' in the 80's. Having to go to a dodgy 'sex shop' to buy a video that was a recording of a recording of a recording, meaning bad quality. Then having no real idea what was on the video after you had parted with 25 quid - a lot of money those days!

All that stupid soft focusing shot's, you'd be lucky in it was in English, ugly perms and hair EVERYWHERE!

Since 2000 porn has come on (no pun intended) leaps and bounds! I much prefer the hard stuff - **********'s material is brilliant (I'm aware he's not a favourite around here), but we need people like Stone in the industry who are prepared to push the boundaries of the "law making" hypocrite's!!

You mean there isnt so much porn already in the world covering nearly most genres to keep you happy?

Where does porn go next? Why dont you the consumer tell us. It seems porn is not as good as the one that is already in your head.

Most producers , if they are not cynically just doing it about the money, are making the kind of porn that they like anyway. It just depends if you the consumer likes it or not.

Otherwise its going to be as it always has been. Producers make a product and put it out there and the consumer buys it if they like it.

I agree with you here OEJ.

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be many porn producers offering what I, and indeed many, would love to see, namely h/c g/g action!
