This whole thread is vintage Johnson:

Move the goalposts, blow hot air, prevaricate, claim that your opponent is "missing the point", blow more hot air, dodge the question and then claim victory.

You ought to have been a politician, David. You missed your true calling.

Only metrosexuals and 'wimmin' drink alcopops. I'm starting to wonder about you, lad.

"And even among those who do vote, there is a significant proportion of entrenched voters (such as those who voted Labour "because me grandad / me dad always did" or because "I'm from a Labour family").

No. The point is if you lived through Thatcherism in the North East of England e.g Durham, Tyneside, Teesside, or Liverpool or Scotland etc, and saw the places where you and your mates worked and got a good wage decimated by Thatcher, you dont think,

Oh lets vote Tory again, that David Cameron seems a lovely fella. Its the turkeys not voting for Xmas scenario basically rather than voting Labour just because we always vote Labour.

Useless point, incompetently and inaccurately made.

You haven't convinced me.

Too right, Sam I would keep well away from this Eric fella.

WHat kind of name is Eric anyway? Smacks of alcopops, metrosexuality and tranny nights down dodgy pubs to me. Tell him to get back with his own sort on Lizard's Rock.

he's the kind of bloke who spends all his spare change on gift aid and spending hours talking to blokes in the High Street about Amnesty International and Liberty.

I've a mind to write to the Mail letters column, Besmirched of Blackpool.

Except that those areas have for the most part been traditionally Labour areas for the best part of 100 years. Voting Labour there has been part of the social and political culture for generations.

Call me Dave could reopen all the pits next week, build a few hundred dark satanic mills and introduce a minuimum wage of 100 quid an hour and most of 'em would probably STILL vote Labour simply because voting Tory goes so much against the grain ("me grandad would spin in his grave").

Every general election is decided by a swing in a relatively small number of marginal seats. That's one of the things wrong with the current electoral system, too many "safe" seats for both main parties due to entrenched voting patterns.
