One man's freedom fighter is another's terrorist, and unfortunately all this 'war on terror' business is not what they'd have us all believe. The views in the Islamic World are not in line with ours, both sides are being sold over-simplified lies in line with what 'side' they are on. I'm told someting like 1 in 4 males born in 2007 in Pakistan were named Osama, which tells us all we need to know. Bush, Blair & Co will have us believe this is simply 'Good' vs 'Bad', the trouble each side believe they are 'good' and the other 'bad'
One man's freedom fighter is another's terrorist,
I've never adhered to this rule and it's something real terrorists use to justify their 'trade'.

Freedom fighters -obviously- fight for freedom. Attacking governments and regimes. they fight to liberate themselves and others.

Terrorists fight for an ideology and attack indiscriminately. They murder civilians purposely, to cause fear and submission. They may think they're fighting for freedom, but killing already freed civilians, in free societies, to gain freedom doesn't convince me in the slightest.

Yeah but the trouble with that, Sam, is Governments also murder civilians indiscriminately in the 'fight AGAINST terrorism' thus defeating the object of attacking solely governments. 'People' are disposable, well down the pecking order behind control/power/money, this is evident in times of war and also the disgusting way 'people' are treated in the world of medicine, food and other commerce.
I'm the last person to defend terrorism (as I would be the last person to defend organised religions, which I abhor) but whereas some of us may argue the loss of lives in the middle east is an unfortunate by-product of a process done 'for the greater good', so the other side are also enitled that their means justify their ends. There is no right and wrong unless you wish to take sides, and given that the so-called 'enlightened' West have been also been led into this mess by supposedly 'religious men' means we're as bad as they are

I'd be more willing to buy the "freedom fighter" argument if these heroic figures targeted political leaders rather than the soft targets of ordinary people going about their daily routine. Whether they be the Israelis that sought a homeland free of British intereference, al Qaida or the IRA, these so-called soldiers are nothing more than callous cowards when they take their war into the streets and feel women and children are legitimate targets.

The difference between the west and the current Islamists is that -say what you want about the Americans- the west spends BILLIONS, and I mean BILLIONS of dollars advancing technology to try and eliminate civilians being killed in times of war. In contrast, terrorists -and their supporting Islamist, despotic governments- spend MILLIONS to kill as many civilians as possible.

Whether you agree with the war or not, I don't know how anybody could see these two actions as equal.

Exactly, Carac.

You cannot compare the French resistance, during the Second World War, to pub bombings/tube bombing of people taking their kids to school, or on their way to work.

Steve you appear to be an intelligent guy. But how is it can you be this dumb?

Id like to draw your attention to FAQ 3.7 Visitors to the BGAFD forums should feel secure, relaxed and encouraged to participate by other Forumites.

So, you have posted a link to this very thread.

If this is some sort of joke, I do not think it is even remotely funny.
