You're telling me that was trouble? Bloody handbags.
Re: Football Trouble.
Just seen this. I was in Seville for the Spurs' game and wasn't far from the trouble...except that I stayed in my seat and watched the game. Got to say that the police were extremely provocative (and scared) and it was only thanks to some exceptional Spurs' stewards that things managed to calm down. However, if the Spurs contingent hadn't flared up the police wouldn't have had the excuse they wanted for a ruck. Same, same, then. They only started batoning people when they realised they were outnumbered and facing some very vexed North Londoners. If you go to Spain, Italy or France you don't fuck with the police. It really is that simple. They get away with public brutality that would be unthinkable here.
The thing I've never got, though, is why there's always some fuck-wit who wants to stoke it up. I watched a massive, fat, shaven-headed bloke walk down to the trouble, work his way to the front of the mob, fuck the police off some more, and then retreat to the back where he hurled abuse. He had no interest in the game going on. Then he swaggered back to his seat. Made my skin crawl to see him wearing a Spurs' shirt. Scum.
The Seville fans were excellent though. Great atmosphere and after the game I was in a bar with a bunch of them and they were apologising for how heavy-handed their police are! They get it a lot, which is why fewer kids go along these days, apparently.
