No, I never thought you would - or could. A typical smoker. Selfish and impolite.

Here's one.
It's perfectly legal to help kill someone with the affects of a cigarette, but illegal to kill someone from the affects of alcohol.
Mad isn't it?

The difference being it only takes one drunk driver to kill someone, whereas one smoker killing someone with their smoking would take a very concentrated effort indeed.
They're more likely to kill themselves first, come to think of it.

Re: BIG FUCKING RANT.
Getting pissed only kills you slowly, whilst smoking kills everyone around you too. Yeah, people should be allowed to smoke, but only in private where they'd only inflict the dirty nails in their coffin on their own rather than being aloud to burying everyone else along with them.

Quite true, although I bet there have also been thousands of drink drivers that have drove illegally all there lives and have just never been pulled over, or killed anyone either.
Drink driving doesn't mean you're definitely going to kill someone, it just makes it more likely than if you were sober, hence the law. It's the same with smokers. You're more likely to contribute to someone's death -or ill health at least- by smoking around them, than if you refrained, hence the new law.
Cigarettes are just a habit. Not a habit you're being forced to give up, just a habit you need to refrain from doing while around others in certain places.
Like I've said already. A drunk driver can be pointed at, and blamed for their actions. Smokers are anonymous and can sleep safely in the knowledge that they're not to blame, their one cigarette didn't make any difference.
While you're 1-2 cigarettes maybe the only cigarettes you smoke around a person, it might be their ten thousandth over the years. Every cigarette contributed to a persons death, or that persons ill health meaning they can't play football with their son.
If cigarettes are ok, why can't surgeons smoke while putting your kids leg in a cast? Or maybe your dentist with a fag in his gob while he's polishing your teeth? How about the nursery teachers smoking everyday in front of a class of 4 year olds? Maybe because it's impolite and a health hazard?
Isn't it illegal to blast out load music 24 hours a day keeping the neighbours up all night? What about the freedom to play load music eh? It's bollocks if you think about it. In 50 years time we'll be sat in amazement at how smokers were allowed to poison other people, but loud music, and drink driving wasn't permitted.
Why aren't I free to get my penis out and stroke it on the tube? I'm not hurting anyone else.
Why can't I carry an axe around in public as long as i don't hurt anyone?
Why am I only permitted access to drinking alcohol in specifically licensed places or private homes?
Why can't a speed 10mph over the speed limit if I've never ran anyone over before?
We could go on forever. Though the above sound strange, they're mostly harmless laws that we think sensible. Isn't keeping a dangerous habit out of public places sensible too?

Re: BIG FUCKING RANT.
I do Crofter, and some people here got the point and some missed it, it stemmed from me ranting about some older people in my local who happen to smoke, they have been freinds and drunk together for years, as from July that wont be the case and I feel sorry for them, I,m not condoning smoking, as I stated I DONT FUCKING WELL SMOKE, I,m standing up for free choice here!, As I have said many times the Aand E units are full to capacity with piss heads every fucking night, NOT with smoking related injuries, the whole non smoking thing is about New Labour dictatorsip.
Air con is so good these days and cheap (considering the custom lots of pubs will loose) just simply have seperate rooms, the funny thing is there is some kind of quiz night in a pub near me, the bar is smoking, the other room is non smoking, the smoking room is full, the other room empty.
The trouble is there is no such thing as a tolerant non smoker these days, they wear thier non tolerancy like a badge of pride. The British way of life is being eroded, tolerance, sense of fair play, live and let live etc. I am fully aware smoking may be bad for you, however the drink culture in this country thanks to this tin pot poxy scandal ridden limp dicked government will ensure the hospitals and liver transplant surgeons have plenty of work for the forseable future.

Re: BIG FUCKING RANT.
Hey Lizard,
Surprisingly, I do get your points. I do actually feel sorry for these oldies who've sat in the same quiet corner, of the same quiet pub, year after year. It does seem a shame, but things move on.
There was once a time you could carry a sword wherever you went. There was once a time you could drive a car without insurance, or a time when you could ride a motorbike without a helmet, and let the wind blow through your hair on a sunny country lane.
Science and medical advances have found that smoking not only kills, but those affects are passed on to others. You mention fair play and free choice, but I've already asked - where has been the free choice for non-smokers who don't want to breath in other peoples smoke? Free choice works both ways. The only choice non-smokers have is to stay home. At the moment, non-smokers are forced to breath in other peoples smoke if they want a social life. Surely this isn't fair? (fair play?) It's really not much of a choice.
The new law is fairer for all. Smokers have had it all their own way -when it comes to choices- for too long. They could stay home, go eat, go drink or whatever and smoke. They had every choice while non-smokers were limited in their choices.
The new law won't stop smokers socialising. It will mean all people can enter a cleaner environment to eat, drink, and socialise. Since smoking hinders smell and taste, smokers may find that their food and beer tastes better (or worse depending where you go) Hell, they may even pull more birds if their breath's a little fresher, who knows?
One thing smokers need to take in here that's invisible to them:
Lot's of pubs will have a separate smoking room. They should feel honoured because non-smokers haven't had the privilege of 'non-smoking only' rooms for the majority of places, for 200-300 years. It's about time non-smokers health, and feelings were taken seriously.

Yeah and if the publicans think that the namby bamby brigade are actually going to venture out of their sheltered fucking lifes and visit their local more often they are in for a big shock ... lol, they would have nothing to moan about then.
I also don't smoke myself but don't like the idea of being told what I can and can't do AND still be boosting the treasuries cash fund to such a staggering degree.

PEOPLE think Stephen Hawking is so clever, but when you ask him a question and he is typing in the answer on his little screen, how do we know he isn't just looking up the answer on the Internet?
