Brit Porn - A Few Questions

What exactly is "Brit Porn"? Is the fabulous work of Suze Randall "Brit Porn" as she is British and shoots porn? If a British videographer shoots a film in Eastern Europe is the result "Brit Porn" because the person putting his or her name to it is British? If a French videographer shot something in Britain featuring British models is the film "Brit Porn"? Are top-shelf classics such as "Fiesta" magazine "Brit Porn" because they are produced by British companies?
On another matter. Is it wise or unwise to market adult dvds as "Brit Porn" in overseas markets as, let's face it, certain countries out there are none too fond of the British for political and historical reasons. I cannot comprehend that slapping a Union Jack on the packaging of a dvd is going to be a positive marketing move in France for instance at this moment in time. I'm not for a moment suggesting that all the French are racists, I'm just being realistic.
The old adage, "The Americans love anything British" is surely bollocks but I often hear this touted in relation to British porn.
So what is "Brit Porn"? Discuss in less than two thousand words.

Easy.
It is all in the eye of the beholder in relevance to this thread and the lengthy one that preceeded it on the same topic.
To paraprase a famous bod:
"You can turn on some of the people all the time,
You can turn on all the people some of the time
BUT you cannot turn on all the people all the time.
Donations from the poetically minded will gladly be recieved in litres of JW by myself and put to excellent use on behalf of the cause.

Anyway to support my arguement about why I don't like American Porn!
I have just got my hands on Jenna Haze My Plaything. It has computer generated money shots! How shit is that? Please do not let the Brit Porn industry drop to those levels!

"Contrary to what you might think, a lot of those poeple haven't watched much porn other than the cursory dodgy quality copy that frequently change hands amongst their mates, therefore they don't realise what they are producing is bad because they havent done the necessary research to find out what is good or bad..."
Who's to say it's bad? Perhaps they watch a film of naked people having sex, jerk off over it and then get on with their lives.
Mission accomplished for the 'bad' porn film.

My apologies. You are quite right by saying this. In short good and bad porn is subjective to the individual. I'm just stating as a point that a lot of people who have picked up a handycam do so without much respect for the porn genre itself and without realising, do what everyone else is doing and flood the market with it, irrespective of whet her it is good or not, I feel people should pay more attention to what is going on in the marketplace.
Rudeboy: My definition of Brit porn is stuff made by British producers with british performers in british locations. Fiesta is'nt Britporn because it mainly features foreign models. I'm a britporn producer (most of the time). There...Less than 2000 words. Believe me I was hyperventilating earlier when I wrote my previous essay.
I also don't agree with the British flag waving thing either. I don't see much flag waving in euro or usa porn but I do understand to a point that British distributors want their customer base to know its a British product. Flag waving is considered quite rude to some and probably an embarrassement to people like Officer Dibble who gets annoyed in those revelling in all their naffness.

It's a wholly subjective question that obviously has a whole host of subjective answers depending on whom you ask... Just as what constitutes bad porn as opposed to good porn.
Personally I think Brit-porn in ints purest form is Brit performers, shot here in Britain by a Brit producer... but I think there are undoubtedly varying shades of brit porn. I'd say that traditionally brit-porn is stuff shot on low budget and pretty mmuch "off the cuff" - obviousy there are exceptions to that rule - Relish material immediately springs to mind. Relish stuff has undoubtedly been a breath of fresh air to what was becoming a saturated market of "traditional" Brit Porn.
I think it is great that we can all sit here and have this discussion... porn is "coming of age" - its gaining ever wider social acceptance - although having said that there are still far too many "holier than thous" out there! It's good that people like Terry (OEJ) can hold his hands up and say - "WE CAN DO BETTER"... and we can.
The buck doesn't stop with producers, directors or performers... we all share responsibility for the product we produce for market.
Performers need to do JUST THAT - perform... put in a PERFORMANCE... it's not just about the fucking! As performers I think we do need to engage with the camera and the audience - we need to be more vocal, t o play up to the camera and the audience... we need to recognise our role.
Directors need to direct - they need to make it ABSOLUTELY crystal clear what they want from performers - as Kym said earlier on - there are many out there who just have a sorta checklist and providing we've started with a bit of oral, moved through doggy, spoons, cowgirl, reverse cowgirl and then a bit of anal - they're happy... and I personally think that has been typical of Brit Porn to date... Personally I'd like to see directors say - just get out there and fuck, but make more of an effort to get a PERFORMANCE out of the performers... of course - if we're spending too long in one position, or the positions are shit for the cameras - YES - INTERVENE - but maybe the directors should be concentrsting more on the performance as opposed to the "checklist" as Kym correctly observed.
But what makes good or bad porn?? As Marcus pointed out - you can please some all the time, all some of the time, but none ALL of the time - and thats kinda true with whats good and what bad - one mans meat is another mans poison to throw in another old quotation! But I do genuinely think we're saturated with "off the cuff" stuff now and I think there is room for something more "well rounded"!
I look forward to seeing some of Terry's forthcoming stuff - if I can have a job Terry, you know where to find me!
