Re: Condoms!!!

Post by videokim »

Me & Heidi have mentioned condoms in our messages but no one else seems to pick up on this? i'm sure its not ignorance but certs without condoms as backup is crazy. Most of the people on here seem educated so it must come down to 'why should i care about who i make films with as the producer insists we don't use condoms anyway'.
As preformers we should try to make our enviroment as safe as we can so its no good just talking about certs & only doing half measures, if you go back over the years on this forums you will see i have always said condoms should be used as well as regular tests but it will take a HIV outbreak to fetch people to their senses.
When people Pro & Am take their health serious i will be the first to back them but half measures are no good to anyone, producers who ask for bareback should be avoided in our books & this may be why i have never shot for anyone but John as my health & my fellow actors/actresses lives are more important.

Terrys idea's are the best yet as he tries his hardest to give people great advice, to add a condoms only rule to UK hardcore as well as on-screen certs would make it perfect but as most producers are only bothered about their films not their workers we will carry on going in circles to the year dot.

Hi Kim

As a producer, speaking for myself I am not against the use of condoms as people will see with third party involvement on real couples.

I have never turned down anyone on the basis of wanting to use condoms. I have done a fair few of them on Real Couples including an upcoming scene with 6 people in it.

The real fact of it is, those who prefer not to use condoms do so of their own volition and I assume producers will work with them on that basis.

Lets not make this out to be producers being ogres here because this entire business and peoples desire to be in it is about choice.

If the whole business wants to go condom you will find others will clean up on work by not using condoms. I hear this sort of thing goes on with escorting too.

I personally feel the models themselves have more to answer for than the producers as they are the ones in the front lines making the decisions that affect their health.

Producers merely pay them. All they have to do is say no. producers can always find others who will do the job and thats the reality of it.

If you are saying producers should all band together and get the whole industry to use condoms then there will be a sudden rise of new producers who feel they will push the envelope by not using condoms.

If everyone conducted themselves in a professional manner and just performed religiously with those with similar certs and didnt include sex with outsiders (ie escorting, one night stands etc) then there wouldnt be a problem.

This business has expanded in many directions and as such the risks are going to be greater. That is simply the reality of the situation.

Furthermore, whats the point of a condom if blokes are still going to shoot their money shots in girls mouths and faces anyway? It all comes down to the same thing

Well said Terry,

if everyone was careful and abided by those safety rules infections wouldn't be an issue as we would all be safe.

Also have to agree - im all for using comdons as long as they are used properly...... if your not using protection for oral too or allowing facial or cim pop shot's - then the comdon is just a waste of time.

ok so your less likely to catch a blood infection from oral/cim/facial shots but you are just as likely to catch gonorrohoea & chlamydia from this as you are from penetration,
and these two infections are the main reocurring problems we have in the industry.

I just realized that this might be the more appropriate thread to post this in.

Just to add...

IMMEDIATE identification, isolation and subsequent treatment, to act as quickly and professionally as AIM did with that HIV case was solely down to having a database in place!

There is no two ways about it.

I do not even want to even imagine what would happen, how long it would take to identify contacts and how many people could be infected in the UK if the same happened there! Scary is not even close... not even close!

"It's alright, you can only catch HIV once..." Just does not cut it for me I'm sorry!

In my opinion UK is on par with Russian as the most risky place to work in this business. Agreed with Marino, these are all our own adult minded choices to make but hey, given the choice...

No need for a database? You gotta be fucking kidding me right?

Be safe everyone,

Keni

Instead of having these repeitive debates and discussions why dont someone step up and do something about it and make it happen?

I think the best people to make this push would be the performers since it is their health that is on the line.

By adding everyone in the business on facebook and myspace and twitter and throwing three or four networking parties a year then add word of mouth on top from people in the industry seems to have covered a large part of it...Oh and not to mention this forum who know about us as well.

You know about us so we aint doing too bad already.

We push condoms because we have always used them, we also push them at night clubs in Clacton & Colchester with leaflets for the Gum clinic who we have made good friends with. As well as clubbers we urge everyone from swingers to escorts to use them & most do, we as responsible adults we know certs work but with condoms they work even better.
People ask why we don't work with mainstream actors more & this is the reason because its no good working with people who play at being safe with certs but can't understand the reason of condoms, all i can say is that the Pro & Am world could learn a lot from each other & this is why the UK industry will always be little pockets of people doing their own thing.

I think that condoms and certs are a very good idea really.
It's just so much safer.

I also think that it would be great if people all went to the same place for their certs. I used to go to MediLab in Manchester but then changed to the Regent's Park Clinic (also one in Manchester) which specialises in Adult Health Certs.
Yes they are more expensive than on the NHS but they do throat swabs as well which I know not everywhere does as well as checking for ID to prove you are who you say you are.

I think that one problem is the worry of a performer having someone else get their "clean" certs for them as not everywhere check ID. I am sure there are people who do it.

I guess everybody just has to care enough to make a change.
