Your arguments are self-defeating - you praise the working classes for caring for nothing but enjoying life, and yet you whine that these people are being exploited by other classes.

The only way for the working classes to escape this perceived oppression would be for them to organise politically - but this would presumably mean that they would have to become "dogged and single-minded" in the pursuit of social change - qualities you abhor.

Your solution - an entirely free market economic system - will inevitably lead to monopolies and concentrations of wealth, creating a small and powerful ruling class and a large, powerless and exploited working class - the system you most want to avoid.

Still - your idea that society is ruled and controlled by Guardian readers is always good for a laugh.
