The policing of IPTV will be quite easy really once legislation is laid down on what is deemed acceptable for viewing by the UK public. If the law says XXX whatever is illegal to download/stream etc etc with in the UK and sites that are operating in the UK making that material available, plus people who have downloaded / streamed the content against the law risk prosecution.

The twist is ! the biggest police force on the net will dictate this and provide all the evidence needed as they did in operation Ore on request "Visa and Mastercard" plus any other companies billing for the illegal site !

Can't say to much about this (non-discosure etc) but worth reading. We were advised today 3 set-tops with the new DRM are on there way to us from Beiging...Our API with a very well know CC Processor will be ready for them arriving.

Bulldog plans for broadband video-on-demand
Bulldog, the UK broadband brand now owned by Cable & Wireless, is reported
to be planning to launch a video-on-demand service in the autumn.

One of the pioneers of local loop unbundling in the UK, Bulldog was acquired
by Cable & Wireless last year. The company appointed a new chief executive
in April, replacing founder Richard Greco. Emanuele Angelidis was previously
chief executive of FastWeb, the leading broadband video, voice and data
provider in Italy.

Bulldog launched an 8Mbps service without any download limit at the
beginning of June. The company is now reported to be planning a broadband
video-on-demand service and has appointed a head of entertainment, Elaine
Safier, former strategy director with AOL Europe.

A Bulldog representative contacted by iptvnews said she could not confirm
or deny plans for a video-on-demand service, saying that it was still early
days and they were reviewing their options. An autumn launch as reported by
some sources therefore seems unlikely.

Meanwhile, BT, which is aiming to launch its own video-on-demand offering
next summer, is believed to be planning to offer an 8Mbps service, and is
considering upgrades to ADSL2+, which could offer speeds of up to 20Mbps.

Cable operators NTL and Telewest have both said that they will now offer
10Mbps as the entry level for their broadband customers in the future.

Video Networks, which currently offers the HomeChoice broadband television
service in the London area, is apparently planning to extend its channel
line up and offer broadband speeds of up to 8Mbps.

While many users in the UK had to content themselves with 512Kbps a year
ago, speeds of 1Mbps and 2Mpbs are becoming more common. With increased
competition, together with new broadband standards, speeds are set to rise
to the point at which video services are possible.

Riley mate, you are a mile out how do you make it easy, surely everything is in place now if its easy. For example servers are in the States/Taiwan how do you stop somone transmitting something that is only ilegal in 1 country.. And who is to say its Ilegal, we don't come under Ofcom or BBFC so therfore we will be under the obscene publications act. And happy to do so. The potential of IPTV is much much greater than a few porn channels why do you think the second biggest broadcaster in UK has placed an order for 50 IPTV live systems.

Don't get me wrong and time will prove what will be controlled and IPTV is the future as you say NTL has already announced 10mbps by end of next year for all subscribers.

The difference as far as I can see is that the big players (non porn or soft porn) are committed but how are the current soft porn channels who are restricted by OFCOM going to sit back and watch IPTV stream hardcore porn into peoples lounges and do nothing to stop them.

It has already been proven this year that they're not going to get R18 level on UK softcore channels so how is IPTV porn Hard going to go live with it and not be controlled.

Any law could only be symbolic. They know as well as anybody it is near on impossible to regulate sites out of emerging countries like Ukraine ... it's all hot air designed to pacify the Daily Mail readers. They couldn't even ban one satellite porn channel Extasi, although they don't like to publicise their failure. There's a fair amount of hard S&M on satellite and they can't do anything about that when they know exactly where the broadcasts come from and the number of broadcasters are relatively small - so what hope do they think they have against web sites or the users, when they can be located in Guatemala, Mexico, Brazil, Japan ... or anywhere the authorities don't give a toss. It's the same old case of them wanting 95% of the public to believe they can be effective, while the other 5% know they're talking bollocks and ignore them ... that way all of us are happy bunnies.

Riley how my system works is via extractable hard drives.Satas. you send to Vancouver then remote access the channel.. I think things through. Even the old publishing act.... My secod server house is in Taiwan...remeber them they launch missiles at China then blow them up over the sea... Cant see tony blair getting them to stop doing that or switchin a server plant of that is not breaking any laws.
As for the soft-core channels, I am sure you know the answer to that ask yourself why are they buying H/C rights now...... I could name 3 that will be on IPTV the rest if they dont get it in gear will be left. At the start is the sharp bit but thats where the big bucks are. when the public go looking there will only be a few sites offering 6000plus kbs and hi-def...... Any producer who see's what is working in my office will sign up, if they don't then they can't blame the industry for not giving them a break.

Tommorrow I can tell you the areas to choose if you want start a local channel, I need somone with a geography degree, RGB you there....297 exchanges in UK to work through is there realy a palce called Rubery...

I am very interested in this project Jim as I have seen you sweat blood to get this up and running, only hope us small boys get a look in before the rich men take all the profit out.I can see myself sitting by a big pool instead of cleaning it.

At the start of the net, we made plenty because there was only about 100 porn channels.. anyone searching and the punters search found us easy. well with IPTV millions will get it because of the fringe channels like Chinnese TV from China Bangadesh TV from India etc etc etc well when they they get horny and everyone does where will they go....to us.
We have the only system working to set-tops, try to read a web-site on a tv out card and you will see the first problem....we don't have the problem as we are doing the API for the set-top.

I also bought a couple of real time edit suites this week if you need anything cut bring it down.
