I went with my mum about 3 years ago to sample the St. Patrick's Day festivities in London's west end. Seemed to enjoy herself a lot especially when she didn't once have to pay for a drink in Waxy O'Conner's pub, although she did baulk at the idea of wearing a large green Guinness hat.

By the way, she and my dad came to this country from the West Indies in 1961, worked right up to their retirement in the Mars factory in Slough (dad) and the NHS (mum) and I asked her if she felt that she and my dad had contributed to the general economic and social decline in this country over the past 50 years. I won't tell you her reply as there's been enough bad language in this thread already.

Incidentally I met my current partner watching The Pogues at the Kentish Town Forum St.Patrick's Day 1988 and if memory serves me well I wasn't the only black face there either.

Fantastic. I bet your mum would have looked marvellous in a green Guinness hat.

You may like to read this post within the thread to understand what Paul from Farnborough actually thinks of West Indians.

It seems pretty clear who he is referring to here, given the reference to the Lawrence family and in the context of this Windrush thread which he, himself started off.

"I have seem lots of very hard working Polish BUT ..... any ..nah. sell a bit of drug or shag a white bird ,or kill a copper but actually father a child and bring it up and then keep in a job , Very Few.
Oh please don't bring the Lawrence's in to this" .

I doubt it as green is SOOO not her colour! And yes DJ I had read 2nfro's earlier post but I was initially replying to the comment he made on my post. I'd like to think that putting my side of the story may have changed a few perceptions on here.
