Perhaps that's because Personnel is and always has been a female-dominated field.

I suspect you will find just as many women who will say that women will not hire women especially those who are younger/prettier/sexier than they are.

No idea what Semi Chem is but shop work has always been female led. When I had a Saturday job in a newsagents in the early 80s there was the male manager, male assistant manager, me, another teenage boy and six girls. In the week there were 11 women. I have just got back from the big shop at Asda ? everyone on the tills was a woman. Also shop work is for the most part poorly paid and I think even today women earn about 70% of what their male counterparts do. In addition, many shop jobs are part-time ? mornings, afternoons or evenings and not 9-5, which allows women with children to work around their childcare needs.

I doubt call centre staff are any better paid than shop workers so the same point as above would apply. Women will work for lower wages than men.

I went last year to do some work in a library and was interviewed by a woman... and I did get the job.

This I agree with.

I have never been asked for this but I suppose that now that they can't ask your age, marital status, religion, colour, sexuality etc they have to discriminate somehow...

That depends entirely on what job you are applying for but I don't think that's true. What would be the point of hiring someone who was really bad? It would make the hirer look daft.

Not sure "threatened" ? more fear that you will show them up or more likely you will get bored and leave and they have to start the whole recruitment process over again.

Re: Gator
Never met a male HR manager. Almost a closed shop to men.
Re: Unemployment
Did you ever answer the question Altruist? When asked "how do you feel about following orders?" You walked out? I always spin it and say "Well that depends on the order and the person giving the order. Is this a military establishment? I need to ask incase its some death camp you are running here"
I say orders are for the military. I prefer kind encouragement. If I drop my Dolphin shenanigans for a moment, I too got destroyed by female HR bitches. Shred em up and turn into crab sticks.
