Even the Sun has said sorry

Tonight The Sun's Editor Dominic Mohan said: "Twenty-three years ago The Sun newspaper made a terrible mistake. We published an inaccurate and offensive story about the events at Hillsborough. We said it was the truth - it wasn't.

"The Hillsborough Independent Panel has now established what really happened that day. It's an appalling story and at the heart of it are the police's attempts to smear Liverpool fans.

"It's a version of events that 23 years ago The Sun went along with and for that we're deeply ashamed and profoundly sorry.

"We've co-operated fully with the Hillsborough Independent Panel and will publish reports of their findings in tomorrow's newspaper.

"We will also reflect our deep sense of shame."

Argie - funeral director?

"Now move on with some dignity and stop living in the past."

You are having a laugh, right? What was your post?

"gimme gimme compensation and we'll shut the fuck up." in response to a topic with the subject "Scum Liverpool fans - the real killers".

Very dignified, Argie. Ever thought of going into the funeral business? You would be great dealing with the families.

The families have got your number, Argie. Trevor Hicks who lost two, beautiful daughters at Hillsborough and has fought for 20 years to get at the truth talked today about all the people who vilified the families with the lies about the fans, stories about they were only in it to get compensation.etc etc .

That's your line about Trevor Hicks. Cunt doesn't care about his two dead daughters. He just wants a good, few quid.

I tell you Argie, there are at least two types of scum in this story - the police who falsified a whole pile of statements and the sickening, vomit inducing, shit on the end of your shoe people like you, Arginald.

Its a shame that at no time since the initial report did the Sun, unlike just about every other newspaper that originally swallowed the police lies, think that we might have got it a bit wrong.

No. And I never stated that I was there.

"if ticketless liverpool fans had not turned up who knows what would have happened!"

That was the purpose of the inquiries to talk to people who went there and interview people who had different roles whether they be fans, police, ambulance men or whatever. And they looked into all the safety aspects of the ground. And the ground was NOT safe and overcrowding was inherent even if not a single fan got in without a ticket.

And the report produced today includes hundreds of interviews and perusal of video footage etc etc

And they come out with the view that "the Liverpool fans did not cause the disaster" based on this huge inquiry. So the nature of the inquiry was far more comprehensive than one report by one fan who was there could ever be in terms of getting an overall picture of what went on.

????? What are you on about?

14 Liverpool "fans" were convicted of involuntary manslaughter and English clubs kicked out of Europe for 6 years and wholesale changes brought in.

But normal procedure is that there is a police cordon some distance from the turnstiles at which fans have to show their tickets -- meaning that ticketless fans can never get anywhere near the turnstile area. Do you understand that we8derby?

The same question could be put to Flat_Eric. Does he understand that?
