As I don't know what your ISP type is, firewall, or your network, what I'd like to know, is why you have to use Port Forwarding, virtual settings, homepages, etc ?

I run a small network here, ethernet, with 2 firewalls. The way I have to allow connections on any program, is to open the firewall, put the porn number/range in, set it to open/access, then click ok.

Exactly, that's why you change the Port Range, do a google for P2P/Torrent Port Ranges, then edit your port range, inside the settings of the program.

This is the link, obviously different settings apply to different routers/modems etc, do be afraid to experiment a bit, this info applies to xp/vista and nearly all routers modems etc..

All you need to do really is tell your router/modem which port you are using and the ip address of your computer, it will work it out for you, then just put the same setting ionto shareaza when you have installed it and your download speeds will be great, but always remember if your trying to download a 700mb film and not everybody has broadband the download speed will depend on how many people have the file etc, I will be happy to help you through the process, once you have done it thats it, it wont interfere with anything else, please read the site carefully, and dont forget if your using shareaza they have a fantastic 'wiki' that will answer nearly all your queries..here..

This only applies if you are running xp with service pack2 or any version of vista, the ability to download at good rates is severely hampered, so these are reliable eays round it, and at the same time keeping your firewall on.
You might think your getting high speed, but we are only on a 1gig bb connection and we get file downloads at 700KBs/1.mb, thats extremely fast using vista and would be impossible if you didn,t port forward, you may get speeds quite high anyway, because your on a 8mb connection, but vista and sp2 severely hamper what you could really get.

I've got XP with SP2, no problems here, it must then depend on each persons system, & how they have got it configured.

I've got a mild 2.2Mbps Broadband connection myslef, & I can get multiple download connection speeds (depending on what program I'm using, the amount of users with the same files, or the traffic speeds available from the sites connecting to, etc) from around 20kbps right upto approx 250Kbps.

I've read up on Vista, & alot of the restrictions it does, there is no way at all I am going to upgrade. To me, going to Vista from XP is more like downgrading to pre 1989 Windows OS versions, lol.
