You got it right right up to where you said "ho should tap him on the shoulder with her sword and say "Arise Sir David Beckham!"
I think he should go to Buck House, kneel at the bitch's feet only for her to knock his block off with the sword. !cool!

You said it! The very first knights were the armoured types on horseback, not civilians. So if we're talking about tradition as being the original purpose of an award then it was given to the military of the time when it was invented, in this case horseback armoured soldiers.

Different thing. The buildings we now live in have simply evolved from being huts to houses. And the aristocracy still live in modified versions of those castles you mentioned. That's not a change in tradition of our culture, but rather evolution. But to change the whole concept of who we give a traditionally military award to is a change in the ways of our culture. Just like we now live in houses rather than huts we should now award knighthoods to the soldiers, airmen and sailors of today.
