John Mayall's Bluesbreakers
Cream
The Kinks
Led Zeppelin
Deep Purple
Nektar
Rolling Stones
Pink Floyd
The Who
The Jam
The Stranglers
Madness (more No 1s in the 80s than anyone else!)
Joy Division
New Order
Stone Roses
Blur
Prodigy
Radiohead
Skunk Anansie
Red (OK, I'm biased because I'm helping them out, but they're damned good tolisten to and even better to watch! !love! )

Depending on my mood, they're all my favourites and I really wouldn't want to choose between them.

Best British band? Infinitely subjective question. So I won't put in any suggestions..........I'd need a secretary to type them all up.

No mention of The Smiths, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

New Order? Great band. The big hits are great, Blue Monday, True Faith, Regret.......... 'Movement' is their finest album IMHO. Best British band though, considering that their parent group, Joy Division, were superior? If they are your FAVOURITE band, great...........but BEST (on merit, hits, longevity, influence, genius)? Surely not?

The McCartney-Lennon axis of Godlike genius is undisputable.
