'Cobbler' is also a name for a spongy pudding, much favoured by our public-school types.
And S56 certainly talks that type of cobblers all too frequently.

That's the fellah- apparently there are both fruit and meat versions.

They've got a sort of dumpling-y, squishy quality that I like.
