Kim, I had earmarked some time in the autumn for a project, which would have included this topic, but maybe now is the best time to address this.
There has got to be support from the performers themselves to particpate, but if so, I'd be willing to run a brief survey which would assess attitudes to these issues. As per any proper research it would be conducted in accordance with the Market Research Society's code of conduct - which calls for complete anonymity and confidentiality of the respondents. Performers would feel completely confident in responding, without fear of their responses being publicly attributed.
I'm happy to provide more details if there's enough interest (and would do so on another thread).

Being the type of person (the lawyer in me) i can see 2 sides.
1) We have a responsibility to our viewers to promote safe sex. Studies show that most children's first experience of sex is through porn. If in porn we are not using condoms, seeing us as 'the experts' children/teenagers or even adults are not going to follow suit. It needs to be seen as fashionable to practise safe sex not 'Boring.'
2) It is our job to portray sex as the viewer wants it. I don't think (my opinion only) the viewer wants to see condoms used. If it becomes mandatory in this country all our trade will move to other countries and we will not have an industry. Simple as
The answer in my opinion is for people to be SMART do not have unprotected sex with those at high risk:
Men that have sex with men,
those who use drugs (needles)
Those from other countries
Those who have unprotected sex (inc oral) with people outside of the industry.
Honesty is the best policy here, people need to be honest if they are at high risk (eg gay men ect) so as models we can make informed decisions. Its our health, careers and lives they are putting at risk if they dont.

It is a golden rule of writing that an author must identify and write appropriately to his/her audience, otherwise the inevitable failure devolves on to the author, not the audience who failed to buy the books.
Your bullet point 2 seems the determining factor. You can't sell to people a product they don't want, especially if it is available elsewhere.
I would add a point 3, something that some seem to studiously ignore, which is that any model is free to stipulate that she/he will only work if condoms are used. In this way, a model can protect him/herself, from others' possible malpractices, well at least as far as is practicable.
I can't see any producer trying to force a model to work unprotected if she/he has previously stipulated otherwise. Under existing health and safety regulations any worker has the right to walk off a job, if she/he feels they are in danger,
In the unlikely event of a producer trying to force a model to work unprotected when that model has previously stipulated otherwise, that model has the right to walk away from the session.

Have any of you listened properly..... It was a mistake.. No one has it, end of!
Make condoms manadatory??? Why not stop sex all together?? Yeah if your fucking about outside of the indusrty which most of you do then wear a condom then.. Thats the only way sti's ever get in the industry anyway.
I think you all need to stop bickering like bunch of old farts and get on with what we do best. Make movies!
And half of you who were in favor of wearing rubbers.. I know for a fact you have fucked without on film and were clean before and after!
I also know most performers swing and have massive sex parties.. Do you wear condoms then when your pissed out ur heads and fucked on gear...... Doubt it!
