Take stock

Understand the risks and appreciate that this is a wake up call to the industry - we need to be careful and we need to understand the risks.

AIDS is real and it is a threat - we should impose a ban on work without condoms until more is known - even after that we should maybe reasses the way that the industry works and how we work ourselves. Its no good hiding a head in the sand and then when someone gets aids we all go nuts trying to work out who it is and all the details.

Be smart be safe. Hopefully more news will be provided in due course.

I'm not suggesting being for a moment that anybody should be irresponsible nor am I trying to belittle HIV as just being an occupational hazard but condoms don't offer 100% protection against it. Abstinence is the only guarantee.

I would put money down and say that a porn performer's sexual health is better and their risk of catching HIV is probably lower than somebody outside the industry who has unprotected sex with a similar number of partners but I don't see you saying it should be illegal to have unprotected sex in your personal life without specific approval. Yes, re-assessing how the industry works is a must but knee-jerk reactions achieve little other than edging that little bit closer towards totalitarianism. The rights of an individual to make an informed choice and accept the consequences should always be protected, they should not be curbed by a self-righteous and out of touch state that decides it is "for their own good".

You should also stop confusing HIV with AIDS, HIV is a virus and AIDS is a condition caused by HIV. They aren't the same thing since HIV is not guaranteed to result in AIDS. Frankly I think it's insulting you have to point out that HIV/AIDS is real. Next we'll be told the Pope is a Catholic...

The industry still care to much about production to use condoms Nob3y but it will take something like this to fetch people to their senses, until we take more responsibility ourselves & become more health conscious making porn will remain a minefield.

Yes a condom doesnt offer 100% protection but it is 1 million % improvement on not using one.

I know HIV and Aids are different - HIV is the boggey man and AIDS can follow on - we have come a long way from the beginning and if caught early enough it can be managed but it does have a significant impact on health and that is worth working towards controlling.

We all have a choice and you should maybe get off of the totaltarian attitudes and maybe accept that someone may be looking out for you and trying to ensure that society isnt impacted by an avoidable event.

All HIV tests have a small but non-zero false positive rate (as well as a small but non-zero false negative rate). It is quite possible for a (false) positive test to be followed by a (true) negative test, as seems to have been the case here. In the case of an HIV test, it is better to have a higher false positive rate and a smaller false negative rate to minimise missed infections, even though it will give the unlucky individual who falsely tests positive a few days of misery.

Over joyed to here has been cleared of this major scare.

Hats off for coming forward and dealing with this matter accordingly.

So happy for the test coming back to be negative.

Congratulations

Being aware of how aspects of life can get closer totalitarianism and having totalitarian attitudes aren't the same thing - you shouldn't be so naive to suggest otherwise.

I already accept that some may be looking out for one another but I don't accept that looking out for one another should come at the cost eroding personal freedoms. I don't remember who said it but the phrase basically said anybody who is willing to give up some freedom in exchange for some safety doesn't deserve either and usually loses both.

A potential consequence of mandating condom use in porn which I don't think is unlikely, melodramatic or pure chaos theory is that it can breed an underground and more importantly an unregulated industry where testing is not required, leading to the problems mandating condom use was intended to prevent.

So you think it would be okay to drive round the M25 at 100 mph in the wrong direction ? Just because YOU wanted to. Of course you have to have some controls in life or else it turns in to a mess. We all have a decision to make in life and we all have to accept that there is a risk. However we also have to accept that maybe we have to control that risk. This incident that we had where there was a significant scare for people because of a possible exposure to HIV - its in an industry that operates with a limited pool of actors and actresses so the exposure rate is pretty high given that there is an incubation period.

Having condom use mandated within the profession would help provide some protection and anyone who operated outwith would quickly become blackballed. Yes you can say that it would become underground but the fact is that if we control educate and mandate we can hopefully keep the legitimite side of the business safe. Working on the wrong side of the line would isolate you from the business.
