I can't be arsed to read the other messages in this thread (mainly because my modem connection is playing up at the moment and each post is taking around a minute to load). Suffice to say, I'm sure you have the best of intentions, but all charity is evil and forced charity (like Comic Relief or the National Lottery) is the evilest of all. Let's put it this way - I am withholding the ?14K personal tax the Inland Revenue have just CCJed me for on account of the impending war on Iraq. When the war and its international opposition leads to a popular revolution in the west that overthrows the British government and its state apparatus (eg the Inland Revenue) I will happily put that 14K towards good and noble scientific causes. Providing Jen posts a picture of her pubes shaved it into the shape of a hammer and sickle. Can't say fairer than that.

I think the consensus was that you were being a bit of a miserable sod/killjoy about it all.
So naturally I rose to your defence.......
Recommended posting ratio: 1 serious, to 20 silly?

'Forced charity'?
Can't recall seeing any machine-gun-toting squaddies lately at my local boutique....and I think a better term for the Lottery (an appallingly bad bet, BTW) would be 'subsidy'.
Like the h&s idea, though.....
