Kim, when I said softcore, I was thinking something along the lines of Bleu Productions - who do something a little arty and edgy. The sort of quality stuff there is a dearth of, and I'm sure there's a market for it.
... or maybe even the sort of stuff that FTV do, but with a bit more oomph and better photography.
What do people want to see?

Re: What do people want to see?
There is a market for softcore, especially where the crossover between mainstream and porn is merging closer together. However the big guns on the web are using softcore as a means to bring more people into their hardcore sites.
As I said before, the beauty of (or promblem with) the web is that it is very easy for people to set up their own sites with their own content. Everyone will have varying views of what they personally like and don't. Kim knows the amateur market very well and knows that there are many people who get off on this type of product. I happen to agree with Mr Benson's views in that it's the quality of the product that matters to me. When I see one of Simon's pictures, I don't have to be told it's one of his, his style is unique to him and so I already know, as I would if it was a Suze pic etc. The same is for me and my photographers. We have taken a girl who others have shot in a crap lit bedroom in a razzle style and made her a Penthouse pet, taking the time to see what's required and making the most of the model. We all have cameras, lights, locations and models... it what you do with them that counts.

You're right, beck images, I've seen some models who look fantastic in one shoot, then in another look pretty dire. It's all about the styling, lighting, set/props, and quality of photography. If you can get all that right and have a unique style, then you have a very saleable commodity.

Personally i would rather see a new face shot badly than a well known model in a quality shot, but of course if you can find a new face and shoot her quality then you are on to a winner !wink!

Re: What do people want to see?
We've noticed particularly in the US that there is a lot of straight hardcore crossing over into fetish and BDSM. My friend Peter runs Kink.com over in SF and most of his talent comes from the traditional porn pools of LA.
It's transformed a genre that was once riddled with amateurs both good and bad but more importantly it's 'mainstreaming' fetish which is most welcome.
I find most models and some producers in the UK still don't understand the fetish genre.
For instance, only yesterday I was called a 'pervert'. As if it were a bad thing!?
On a more serious note, it's so obvious to me that the UK has to pull its socks up regarding production standards and also more importantly with regards to how it thinks of itself. Quite frankly I'm tired of the cheeky, eccentric, homemade image.
Overseas customers will always warm to the very unique 'Briddish' flavour of porn but at the end of the day they will vote with their cheque books and buy into what they perceive as value for money.
Those left holding the flag for 'amateur' porn will have to find another way to pay the mortgage.

Re: Softcore vs Hardcore
'No offence Kim but I think you're a tad arrogant. I think your view is exactly the kind of dated attitude that maintains the UK Adult industries worldwide image as a tired old cornership that sells homemade jam'
You have to have confidence in your product & with the customers help it works for you, i think its arrogants of some pros to think amateur has a lower place in the market when its clear its way out in front compared to glossy stuff (not mine but amateur as a collective).
We see the jack the lad producers who will change the world of porn & end up being just another flash in the pan lasting only a couple of years, its this that causes set backs in the industry not amateurs.
'Tired old cornershops' yes i suppose we are really because apart from a few on here were now the old dinosaurs, we have been there done it & bought the t-shirt so we know how porn works.
We have no problem with glossy & it should be the same with you guys on your views on amateurs but there is no unity in the pro industry & its that little gem which sets amateur apart as it as a great network where everybody helps each other.
As we said look back at this post in 5 years & see who is right, confidence is not being arrogant...

I know 'arrogant' is quite an inflammatory word.
But what I mean to say Kim is it's remarks like those above, set you up as sounding arrogant. Being old or having been around awhile counts for nothing in this or any industry. You don't get a badge for long service!
I've been in the industry 20 years, maybe longer than you.. and I'm not too proud to say that I am stilling learning.
Nor would I say my genre (fetish) is better than another.
What you've written are the kinds of remark I'd expect from someone much less experienced than yourself.
If you really did know how porn works you'd be a millionaire.

Re: What do people want to see?
Softcore being the new hardcore???
I stopped shooting soft because there was no money in it. ie The rates for soft have dropped and I was getting pissed about too much when soft is actually a lot harder to shoot and edit than it is to do hard and plus I was getting a lot less for it because of the recession.
If you mean soft being the new hard in terms of erotoicism etc then yes fair play. I only speak from my own perspective of course as this works for me. Im still here.

Re: What do people want to see?
Thats what I was thinking Kim, thanks very much. I will stick to what I have in my head for now and see where it goes.
Niches are all well and good I guess but I figured that most of my mates want to see the girl who works in our office with her kit off, or the lady who comes in occasionally to see the boss etc.
There is so much good advice on here, thanks
Take care.
Matt.
