Sandie won an award and wasn't there ( picked up by Joanna Jet, according to Sandie's post on Award Winner's thread), so the second point is surely invalid?

Colin, are you sure Sandie said she wasn't there ?

I'm 99% sure i saw her early in the night, altho i don't remember seeing her on stage, and after the show was manic so didnt see her then. She was also at Erotica on the day as well?

just to add to this conversation..

yes i was there but left early.

however i did only attend as phil phoned me a few days before to tell me i was nominated in 3 catagorys.

why i wasnt going and why i left early is my own business but i do believe it rude to be nominated and not even make an effort to attend to recieve ur award in person.

i do apologies to phil for not collecting my award in person.

i dont think it was a case of..."we will give out awards to whoever is coming". those that were nominated were warned, i believe, so that they had the oppertunity to organise going if they then wished to.
wether this was a bums on seats ploy tho i have no idea.

I wasn't going to add anything to this because I feel I said what I wanted to say, and that was that. I'm not sure if the above comment was directed at me and I can't speak for anyone else, but I wanted to attend the awards but had some deep and very personal issues(non industry related) that couldn't be resolved before the event(and still aren't) which prevented me from showing up. I'm sorry but that is also MY own business too. I felt (and still feel) within my right not to share it with anyone within the industry(or outside of my family circle for that matter) knowing full well that the reason will be shared in gossip. So it WASN'T a case of 'not making the effort' it was a fact that I couldn't make it not because I didn't want to.

Also I was told in text, "anyone who's not there does'nt get an award" I still have the text. If that's the way the organisers want to set it up then that's fine if they want to do it that way, but i'm allowed to disagree and my argument was - In every other award, be it music or film, if a nominee can't make it then a friend or collegue can perhaps pick it up for them.

The nominees in these other events aren't given 'warnings' or made to feel ashamed for not attending these awards and quite frankly I resent any attempts to make me to feel that way.

I already said that I wish I could have gone. I was very upset that I couldn't go. Though I am pleased someone was finally able to pull something of this level off and i'm also pleased for anyone who did win and was nominated, but I won't accept anyone challenging my motives for not going, my private life and my business is exactly that, and I will not accept any judgements being passed on me especially by people who don't even know me.

Hi Lara,
I'm not here to cast any aspersions to the reasons you gave but in defence of the event it wouldnt have been very good if hardly anyone in the industry didnt turn up on the night. I think there was a serious threat of this happening as it was a Friday and on the night of Erotica weekend. I understand (yourself aside) there were numerous excuses of people doing other things that night that tactics I am not aware of may have been deployed to get them there.

Anyone who is anyone in the UK adult industry should be there because they are simply part of it. This was the first one so it was always going to be judged for it.

Some producers decided to not show their support because they were sceptical about it or just plain couldnt be bothered. I think it would have been a diastrouds night if awards were meted out to those who werent there which is why, being the inaugural event it was that people were informed.

I'm pretty sure most awards the nominees are made aware which is why some people always whip out these crisp bits of paper to recite their acceptance speeches. I knew I was nominated but wasnt even told what for.

If I remember right, The BAFIAs at Brighton 2004 was the same thing. i was told to be there because I 've been nominated. In other words it was a polite way of saying: Dont make me look like a dick head if you get called out and aint there to pick up your award! (LOL)

Hopefully next year a lot more poeple will take this more serious and make a concerted effort to show up and support it as it is a gala line up of anyone who is really anyone in UK porn whether you win or not.

I wouldve been there regardless of the fact i won two awards.

Btw Lara this isnt a dig at you at all. I just saw your post as a spring board to make these points. Hope you are well and say hi to Mike.
