Boris has announced that everyone over the age of 18 in Britain will get a cheque for one million pounds in the post on Saturday. This is due to the chris grayling saving bonus.

I have just seen a picture of the new Cabinet in the papers this morning (it turned my stomach), on the front row is Lorraine Kelly's "friend" Esther McVey.
She has been appointed "Minister of State for Housing and Planning".

I love that Boris has given her the HS2 and heathrow shit storms to deal with. But there's fuck all chance of the vile bedroom tax being thrown out under her. She'll change it to if you're on benefits and your home is big enough to turn around in you have to pay extra.
In terms of routine planning which might affect the general public eg building something entirely inapproapriate near your home she's very little to do with it as it comes down to the planning inspectorate who from what i've read on some of their reports related to places near me seem to be really thorough and quite good at their jobs.

The real answer to all this is that the Tory party should have split years ago over it's attitude to the EU. The problem with that is it's loony toons right-wing know they would never be elected and aren't brave enough to go it alone on that basis. If brexiteers are arguing that it is undemocratic to have another referendum on leave or remain then in turn based on the majority pro-eu decision in the 1970's it was undemocratic to have the leave/remain referendum in 2016 as that decision had already been made 40 years ago.

Back in the run up to joining the EU I was only junior school age so can neither recall anything or had any interest.
However a fundamental point there will be differing opinions on is overall have the last 40 years been as expected / predicted ? What about the first 20 years.
Another big change is the number of countries in the EU now compared to when we joined. Many of the more recent countries to join have been relatively financially poor and received far more than they contribute. This has an indirect cost too. Just one example was Peugeot closing the Ryton ( Coventry ) factory and replacing it with one in Slovakia that the EU contributed to. The UK lost direct and indirect jobs plus indirectly contributed to the new plant ...... :X8-)
