It makes zero difference to the fact that you refuse to defend your position that workers should not get benefits as shown in the link below and despite allegedly living at the end of a tube line, refuse to come up with some simple costings to show how a single person renting a room can get by working in central London without benefits.
Instead you come up with the "startling news" that people disagree with me. Rather poor diversionary tactic Mr Lad. Forgive me, if I am not shocked and amazed by this staggering news

Perhaps you can drop an email to explain to Mr Hitchens the following:
Given that social security spending in the UK in 2010 as a proportion of national income was no higher than the Tories in the early 90's recession as I have explained in the link to the International Fiscal Studies report here
How come we can't afford the social security system whilst we can afford Trident, a continuing war in Afganistan, involvement in Libya, giving the banks umpteen billions of loans at 0.25% interest etc etc. so everyone's savings rate is buggered.
Let me know what his answer is.
In the meantime, given you appear to have a lot of spare time on your hands to research various right wing writers, have a go at the question you just couldn't answer in support of your views here

Or adopt the system I suggested before whereby someone on ?14k would only pay tax on ?2k of their earnings but you would prefer they pay tax and then fill in forms to claim money back... Bizarre use of taxpayers' money.

I totally agree with you that generally the UK approach is that a business of any nature is about profit for owners, dividends for shareholders and the share price with the business simply being a mechanism to achieve this.
The now closed large automotive component manufacture that used to me the areas biggest employer was a perfect example. One group that owned it for a while openly stated if they moved manufacturing to the far east they would only need 10% of the site and staff for distribution. They could then build a retail park on the other 90%. This totally ignored that several thousand would be redundant so would not have money to buy the cars the components were fitted to nor shop at the retail park.
If 20-30 years ago generally the UK had the view that long term industry was essential we would be in a better position now. Because training and apprenticeships were massively cut practical skills were not passed on. We are now paying the price for this with a skills shortage.
As to being able to raise the minimum wage for no return without making businesses less viable I remained unconvinced.
