"Cable Street was basically Moseley's lot against a hotch-potch of socialists, communists and anarchists. For both sides it was just as much about having a ruck as it was about "protecting the Jewish community". That's the starry-eyed romantic socialist view David. I reckon you've been listening to too many Billy Bragg records!"
And you Eric are talking out yer arse and not for the first time. "For both sides it was just as much about having a ruck as it was about "protecting the Jewish community".
Yeah, no doubt Eric, you would have said the same thing about Hitler and his thugs marching in the streets of Berlin in the thirties. Who do you think Mosley's Blackshirts were modelled on?
Good job the country wasn't full of Flat Erics in 1939. "Oh I don't want to get involved. It's just two sets of ruffians looking to have a ruck. Can't we settle this with a nice cup of tea and a packet of biscuits while I listen to some dance music on the radio? Can you massage my feet in that special way, Mama"

So it's changed from one gobby twat just mouthing off (see higher up) to three trying to cause a ruck to one actually starting a fight ... which is it??
Never claimed to be Mr. Perfect !wink!.

And if they did bring it up with him what he do? "Steer them right"? I read that as hit them which makes him nothing more than a violent thug trying to prove 'e's 'ard! Say something I don't like and I'll smack you.
He wasn't in a Charles Bronson film dealing out justice whenever he thinks someone deserves it; judge, jury and executioner style. I don't agree with what was said but I certainly don't agree with what he did. Any respect I had for him would've gone. I would've respected him a lot more for walking away.
The person that said what they did aren't worth the time of day so just ignore them. They'll look like a twat. He made himself look just as bad and therefore cancels out any sympathy he deserved.
No matter how you try to excuse it he committed a violent act. There is never any excuse for violence outside the realms of an action film.

"I'd shame them with words Kim. Equally effective, just as humiliating for them and much safer"
Eric would tell them to stop being naughty. A very effective ploy, Eric, if I may say so.
That worked well with the anti fascist groups that wanted to stop the EDL marching e.g.
Stop chanting "Go home Paki bastards, we are going to fuck your wives". Skinhead chaps, you are being very naughty and it is not nice at all.
Tell me Eric, do you live in Worthing or Eastbourne?
1wink!

So you don't agree with Liz and Rodders that I need 'decking' or 'shooting'?

Sorry, Kim, but while I sympathise and understand the actions you talk about, racism doesn't justify violence. As scummy as these bigots are, physically harming someone takes it to another level and leaves you tumbling off the moral high ground.
Again, offending somebody, even purposely, doesn't justify violence.
