I'm getting really confused here, who are you talking to at the moment?? Dave Lever, Jim Slip (Both me) Dave Wells or Yawgmoth?
Are you and Yawgmoth one and the same?? !confused! My question was to Yawgmouth, why do you think it was directed at you?!confused!

To jimslip:
"My question was to Yawgmouth, why do you think it was directed at you?"
I'll be happy to answer your question but call me a sucker for social etiquette -- can you answer mine first please? The one about your lighting, which I preceded by the highest kind of compliment a professional can get?

Concerning yours and Ben Dover I usually get a month membership every year/couple of years. As for killergram I used the last few days of membership from a friend.

(Maybe he's not used to people saying nice things about him, Yawgmoth.)
Btw, what is TVX exactly ?

I guess it's some kind of British porn production, since you mention it very often I googled it but could not find any relevant info (I did not research in depth though)

Now I hope I'm not going to embarrass myself by answering a post meant for someone else, but I'll take the chance.
The first porn film I ever lit was in 1992, an early Private film called Anal Manor. I turned up with a lorry full of lights and in fact had to wire up all the phases in the big house to get the power I need to run them. Each scene had about a dozen lights all with a function.
All the time I was there I had to put up with the "crew" sniggering behind my back. Unlike myself, they knew that in porn you just bouce a couple of Red Heads off the ceiling or shove a couple of soft boxes on and voila! Anyway, I got a mention in AVN so I got the last laugh. But I did learn my lesson and cut right back on the lighting.
Your query as to "Natural lighting" is a valid one. ALL the production values of nearly all my stuff is based on the actual personalities of the people involved. Lighting is secondary as I'm not trying to create an atmosphere that is beyond the reality of the scene itself. It is also very time consuming. All the same, on many recent jimslip scenes shot in Budapest, I have been creating long Hitchcock style shadows against anything I can find, it's weird and very retro, but I like it.
In my last series for TVX, "Laras Men In Uniform", I went back to my "roots" and shot and lit the scenes properly. This was a "Dramatic" series, I suppose. I was really pleased to do this, because everyone thought I could only do reality stuff and "reality" isn't a good career move, as everyone thinks it's so easy.....which it is not.
The art of great lighting is making the viewer think there is NO lighting. On the Anal Manor set I needed to use a load of lights all dimmed to give the effect of just the few lights you'd have in a real period house.
Anyway, I hope I just haven't made a complete fool of myself! lol

OK I think I'm starting to understand what's going on.........errm?? Anyway, I took the plunge and guessed you were talking to me and answered your question, I think..........
There was a reason as to why I asked Yawgmoth about how he is so informed about the material he is commenting on.

Oh OK, in the last couple of years .com has moved up in every respect, lighting, girls, styling, technically, everything has changed I think for the better. We are always trying to evolve and move on and in the last month I have been archiving 10 years of jimslip stuff and I cannot believe how much the stuff has changed during that time.
Lara has a free site attached now and that is doing really well. I film and direct her stuff and it has a kind of weird feel about it. I find it so much easier to direct her stuff than I do mine.

It's good to know, I'll probably chip in for a month membership this year. But quite frankly I liked your site more when it was mostly about UK girls rather than Eastern European girls.
If you happen to fuck Paige Turnah in the ass I'll wipe out the credit card in an instant though =)

Well, hats off to you, mate. I haven't a clue about lighting. Everything fits into place ok because when I first started shooting stuff I had a lovely little Canon that was fucking lush with natural light (especially with backlighting), but I went on a couple of short lighting courses and left feeling a bit befuddled, at least in terms of creating anything worthwhile and good.
One of the teachers showed a scene from American Beauty, in the family's lounge to make it look lit by daylight, and as you say it was flawless and brought no attention to itself. And he was saying how complicated it was to achieve and Conrad Hall was a master and I was thinking: "Er, fuck. No. I'm shooting smut. Like to have it look good though." So I've just always used the sun.
Is there a side of you that would like to go back to the theatre? I did Drama at university and loved directing for the stage. When I see a play now I feel quietly envious of all those involved. Different projects, different places, different people, the special feeling of a theatre.
Posting directed at Dave Lever / jimslip.
