Of course they had a good time, they were given free boots and clothing, free food, a free coach ride to London and were then priviledged to sleep under the arches, the police normally move people on from there.

And then taken to a free campsite with free tents, allright it was a bit swampy but that was the weather you can't blame anyone for that.

Surely they wasn't expecting payment after all those freebies, the ungratefull youth of today, i dont know !wink!

Quite right. I blame "Lord" John Prescott. What a shit stirrer!

PS. Ive got a video photographer 3 month project for you in the North West. No pay, but it is just a little tryout for you to see how it goes. Could be some paid work to follow, if all is well.

Don't worry! I will supply the tent and sleeping bag. And I have a spare pair of boots size 45 if they are any good to you? You will be snug as a bug under North Pier. You just have to remember to take the tent down at high tide.

Jeez, you drive a hard bargain. Don't you realise profit margins are next to nowt in this business, even when I'm paying nothing to contractors?

I could possibly throw in a couple of free donkey rides and a selection of rock (dental bills not included).

YOu might also need to remember that underneath North Pier is an ideal position for the occasional drunken lady to make an appearance as she looks for a non-existent public toilet at 5am.

True love comes in many forms!

Great. I am pleased you are taking up my no-pay tryout option. This is the sort of get-up and go attitude which will have our great country's economy back on its feet in no time as well as sorting out my cashflow probs.

I would estimate it would take about 2 days to get from Kent using your bus pass. However, this will mean that you will arrive to start the contract, fresh, rested and ready to go!

I will make sure I have the sleeping bag cleaned in time. It was a bit smelly from a recent weekend in Whitby. Now that we are in the summer season, I would imagine that life under the North Pier will be a "good laugh" and I feel sure you will have a "good time".

If you come across anyone trying to hang themselves from the girders underneath North Pier, please try and dissuade them. We have enough bad publicity in Blackpool as it is.

I think more people should do unpaid work it makes a person feel usefull and wanted, years ago many thousands would take part in such schemes like workfare, it was then called slavery..

I know how you like little scenarios so ponder on this one.
You are interviewing two students for a job with your company ----- Bullshit International.
Both candidates have the same qualifications and both seem very competent.
A question often asked at interviews is "do you have any extra curricular activities?"
Candidate A answers "I sit at home and play on my X box"
Candidate B answers " I sometimes do jobs for little or no pay, but I pick up some experience and gain a bit of knowledge"
Who would you employ?
p.s. neither is a Labour supporter.

You were a big loss to stand-up comedy when you decided to go to sea.

" question often asked at interviews is "do you have any extra curricular activities?"

"
Based on the question, I would be reluctant to employ Candidate B because they appear not to have a basic understanding of what "extra curricular activities" means. If they do jobs for little or no pay, that should have appeared in the Work Experience section of their CV. If it was volunteering to support a cancer charity for a couple of hours that would be a different matter.

I guess it is not a given how employers would view potential employees' experiences of working for nothing. Some might regard it as a positive; others might think, "why should I employ this person on a wage when other people do not seem prepared to do that".

EIther way, my point is completely different.

1. I understand why people work for nothing - desperation to get a paid job somewhere down the line.
2. I understand why people employ others who work for nothing. Usually it is to improve their bottom line.

My point is that to employ someone in the private sector to do a job which realistically does not involve any substantial training is exploitative and should be banned. It is replacing potentially paid workers with state funded, free workers.

Have a good weekend.

And if you don't want to be a slave......well, you're just a layabout chav or a hand-wringing, lilly-livered liberal who only has croissants or muesli for breakfast.......probably with soya milk.
