I absolutely loved Boogie Nights and I think the director did a fantastic job on it. Ifthere was ever an event that the entore porn industry should go to its that movie.

What you see as bad TH, Isee as par for the course with this industry as it is (to quote Marcus Allen) filled with the weird and the wonderful so therefore it wil have those extreme personalities and situations arising from porn in it.

The documentary Ive been shooting since 2008 is kind of telling itself and I cant help but spot similarities.

There have been girls who have lost their childrent to doing porn. I was refused insurance last week because of my partner (yes really and I'm fucking furious as it has nothing o do with the insurance I've been paying for for years) The insurance underwriters said they have nothing to do with the porn industry.

As for the snorting of coke 24/7...Well I dont do it but I'm not on trial here so I aint sayin' shit! Lets just say if its used its because people enjoy it not because its a need. Its when it becomes a need when it becomes a problem.

There are more well adjusted people than there are reckless ones but its the reckless ones that make for more better stories because who wants to hear of a person being normal in an extraordinary business.

A lot of people forget that outside of pointing a camera at people shagging that most of the people behind the scenes have regular lives like everyone else.

As for people in porn coming from dysfunctional backgrounds, well there are a hell of a lot of people that dont o porn that have come from even worse backgrounds so why should this be exclusive to people who do porn.

If anything, what I have learned with my discussions with people on this topic is that doing porn has not only empowered them but was also seen as a refuge for being in a community of people that understand them for what they are.

I think the world at large is a lot more sick and venal than porn. Porn merely puts a big mirror up tothe rest of the world and tells it like it is.

Think about it, for all its critics, how come it makes more money than Holywood and Bollywood put together? Somewhere in the middle you will find your answer.

You hate it but deep down we know you want it. You crave it. You gotta have it. You know you want it LOL

Very few British industry people have worked much in the USA and even
less during the "golden age". Dave Wells worked quite a bit in the USA.
Jim Slip has also been connected with this industry a good many years.....
I worked in Hollywood regularly from 1988 and lived there for years 7
from 1997.....
So Turan, I have to say that I find "Boogie Nights" quite real and not at
all exaggerated. As other people have said on this blog, we are dealing
with Americans who are both immature, naive and often hot-tempered.
Brains is not something you see much of around a US porn set and to be
an intellectual is to be a faggot or a wimp !!
If the film has negative aspects it is because the industry has - I regret to
say - negative aspects ! And I must disagree with you because in places
the movie is both touching and funny !
I can think of countless bizarre moments on US porn sets, from meeting
"Savannah", the star who blew her head off with a shotgun because
someone had scratched her car, to the stud out of his brains on acid,
eyes rolling around his face, who told me, "Hey man, I wanna tell you I
never do drugs !" or the shootout at Elegant Angel that left a man dead
in the hallway !!!!
I also remember chatting with the charming fat old New Yorker who
produced "Deep Throat". He was also connected with the Gambino crime
family. And on, and on...........

The porn industry is a like a great girlfriend. To know her is to love her but there are many times when that love can be seriously tested.

Why does Boogie Nights have to represent the nice and fluffy coated aspect of porn? I think it nicely showed a cross section of the industry and was intelligently handled by Paul Thomas Anderson who I would never accuse of making porn look bad. I think there are various individuals in real life who do this quite well by themselves but like a lot of things we shouldnt let those few speak for the rest of us in it.

We cant sweep the bad things about this business under the carpet and show just the good things because it wouldnt show a balanced view. Good and bad are defined by how they contrast with each other

If anything it just proves that us as people are screwed up on sex. Sex in itself is ok. Its doing what its meant to do. Its just the people who do it are complex

I think Boogie Nights is one of the finest films of this genre and I dont think you need to have lived in america to witness that. Its right here in the UK and europe as well

I think Frank has a wealth of knowledge for the time he has put in but anyone who has spent at least a year in porn will realise the movie is not far from the truth at all.
