I remember that same Sainsbury's in Surbiton Bob - near Macfisheries I think (another thing from the past!)

"Whingeing about them seems, dunno - a bit pointless?"

You clearly aint got the point so I will explain.

I am a customer at B&Q. Like any customer if I think I am not getting good service or indeed bad service I have two options:
1. Complain.
2. Not complain.

I chose 1.

The supplier then has two options . They can either.

1. Ignore me and others who complain.
2. Act on it.

If 1. occurs I will stop going to B&Q. If they choose to ignore me, my action is not pointless, because they have lost a customer and hopefully others who do not want to be unpaid checkout operators and help to reduce staff numbers. If they choose to act on it, my action is not pointless.

Hence your phrase "time alone will tell" is irrelevant to the question of whether my action is pointless or not.

Got it now?

Cheers

Yes. I should've said effectively pointless.

Any customers actually lost will probably be exceeded by gains. Judging from the queues I've seen, the main problem with these self service checkouts is there aren't enough of them.

No. You still dont get it. Protest is never pointless, irrespective of whether it meets its aims or not.

You clearly disagree. No more to discuss.
