bogwort,

By all means disagree and propose alternative arguments to me or anyone else on here. You are entitled to your view as much as the next man. However, to resort to the lowest common denominator and simply insult people is way off. Not only does is erode the discussion and debate, it's playround type stuff - too often used as the refuge of people who can't engage in a grown up manner*.

The trouble with you is you're to far up your own rear end to see any light.

So you try and patronise those inferiors around you with drivel like "grown up manner".

All "grown up manner" means is Your point is not mine therefore you're not "grown up"

Again you talk of principles.

I think it's fair of you to say "I care more about England than other countries." That's fine. What you can't do is criticise others for their lack of principles when your principles collapse depending on the person/nationality here.

Getting back to Khan, I think it's easy to see why he represented Pakistan. His parents are from there, as are most of his descendants. He wanted to represent England and wasn't selected. This is miles away from a British Pakistani ruling out representing his home nation from the get go. The kid has dedicated a lot of time and effort into learning his craft and in doing so will be sacrificing a lot of what most youths take for granted. The training involved at that level cannot be compared to a kick-about in the park with your mates at weekends. He lives it. If his goal was to compete in the commonwealth games, for England, then he'd have been training and gearing up to this event probably for the last 18 months. To have the opportunity taken away has got to disappoint the kid and I can't blame him one bit for grasping the opportunity of representing Pakistan instead. If I was an Aussie kid of English parents and not deemed good enough to represent Australia in some hypothetical international event, but had the chance of representing the nation of my parents' birth I'd take it. It wouldn't mean I suddenly despise everything Australian, it's just another opportunity to achieve my goal - or live my dream.

What I'm pointing out to you isn't rocket science. Surely you must have thought this was a fair enough reason for the kid to do what he did.

The trouble with you is that you are you.

At least I tried.

What are you talking about??

My stand on this issue is firm and constant.

Where has it differed???

You're far to intellectual (pseudo) for your own good. Even you don't understand wtf you're on about.

"You in your pathetic little existance can only WISH you were ME".

Unless it was something about spelling. Or grammar.

Anyway, let's get back to the main point of the thread shall we?

I thought it was easy to understand. Seems you're more interested in abusing people than listening to reason.

Ergo lies your smugness.

YOU think that YOUR principles are those that should be held by EVERYONE.

So YOU think I should condemn people of ALL nationalities who turn against their country.

Where despite stating several times that MY principle is, I look out for MY country and OTHERS should look out for THEIRS, because it disagrees with you I am wrong and YOU are right.

Therefore because I do not agree with YOU I am unwilling to listen to "reason".

Pompous beyond belief!
